Re: Help Me Make Up My Mind

See if this helps you any.

SHORT Shaft Pots: Historic's like R4-R9, SG, 335, the "Paul" LP Special, all Epi's, Agiles and most imports LP's will use the short shaft pots. Les Paul Custom Lite needs the short shaft pots. All Pre-1977 Gibson LP's will all use the short shaft pots.

LONG Shaft Pots : LP Custom, LP Standard, LP Studio, Traditional, Traditional Pro, LP Classic, after 1977 all use these models long shaft pots. The long shaft pots from 1977-2007 come mounted on a metal plate from the factory. After 2008 many LP models have the Pots mounted to a PCB.

Good luck with your project B.M.

Re: Help Me Make Up My Mind

I've used both those pups in an Epi LP before with the BB Pro in the neck and the PG in the bridge as well as BB's all around in my Gibson. The PG is definitely going to sizzle more in the bridge than a BB will. I guess it depends on what type of music you play. I would recommend the PG for the bridge at least. I can't comment on the PG neck pup. The BB in the neck is good but it's not amazing either. If you are buying new then I would recommend talking to some of the winders here. If you're buying used then you could probably get both pups for around $100 total on ebay.

I'm pretty sure you have to use long shaft pots and you'll need to drill the holes a little if you swap the pots

Re: Help Me Make Up My Mind

I don't get along with Burstbuckers. I had one set that I kinda liked, but it was at a time I was really into Big Muff pedals. Once I turned off the Muff, I was disappointed again.

I'd vote Pearlys between those two. Yes, short shafts will fit EPIs. ...so will long shafts.

Re: Help Me Make Up My Mind

See post #2. Taken from the page of a professional harness builder. ALL EPIPHONE guitars take the short shaft CTS Pots.

The tone and volume control holes:
The CTS pots have 3/8" diameter bushings and the 8mm holes in Import guitar bodies will have to be opened up slightly for the US sized pots to fit.

You will need to do a little sanding inside the holes to open them up a bit, not much for them to fit properly inside an Epiphone Guitar. I wrapped a small piece of 220 grit around a pencil and worked it back and forth a few times and it fit great on my last project.

First you have to come back to receive this information. Good luck with your project.
