Re: Help to identify this Gibson humbucker

Could be a Shaw or a T-Top. Possibly something else but not a dirty fingers.
Someone with more knowledge will be able to tell, I'm sure!

Thanks! : )

At the bottom of the pickup there is L - on the photo just top of the letter is visible. Never seen that on any that on another 2 737 842 while looking at google images.

Re: Help to identify this Gibson humbucker

Is it possibly a T for Treble?
If it is, they could be from a later series (which I know nothing about!)

hmm You could be right, it's hard to say if it were T, but that L just doesn't fit there hehe

Neither.

Without at least a DC reading it's just not possible to identify it, as it could be a 490R, 490T, 498T, 496R or 500T.

Being golden covered, most probably 490R if the polepiece spread is 1 15/16". If it's wider, either a 490T or 498T, depending on the DC reading.

without reading from meter and without taking cover of to see more details it will be impossible to pin down exactly what it is.

I see a maple spacer, so it is not a Shaw.

Re: Help to identify this Gibson humbucker

My guess it's one of the earliest 490R/498T pickups

yes you could be right Oranjeaap, could be one of the rare early 490's with the patent number base plate, 1990 was the transition year on 490's and some were made then with the patent number base plate.

The DC reading says it's most probably a 498T.

I rest my case.
