Signal distorted by pedal

I recnetly started using a cheapo danelectro fab chorus pedal insted of the onboard chorus effect of my amp to free up the onboard flanger effect for live use.

My problem is that the sound somewhat distorts when playing a note or chord hard when using the pedal; this does not happen when the effect is turned off.

Now is this because the guitar signal is too strong for the pedal?

If so is this a problem with cheap pedals that is fixed with better ones? Or a problem with other pedals of this nature?

Cheers.

MVL.

Re: Signal distorted by pedal

I'm using the fab chorus as well but haven't noticed this...but then again, the chorus is only on for my cleans..

Yeah I was using it mostly on cleans; and anything less than gentle picking (when the effect is on) results in a fuzzy rattle kinda sound from the amp speaker.

Re: Signal distorted by pedal

How old is the battery? Could be a faulty FET switch, but I'd check full power is there first.

Re: Signal distorted by pedal

Tried it with a power supply and battery; I've only tried it with marshall MG amps; but the noise doesen't happen when playing with the effect off - so it pritty much must be the pedal.

Re: Signal distorted by pedal

It's probably a combination of cheap pedal and cheap amp. No offense, but you know what you have. Maybe the MG does not like pedals? Who knows.

Re: Signal distorted by pedal

Lol probably; tried it with the SG and it didn't so it so I'm pritty sure its that the pedal can't stand the full force of a les paul with the volume full (i adjust volume at the amp rarther than pedal) I guess I could fix it by turning down my LPs volume a tad and turning up the amp volume but its a crap pedal so I'm just gonna search for a better one.

Re: Signal distorted by pedal

I'm using an electroharmonix small clone with my Les Pauls. It sounds really good.
