I've never tried the Fulltone, but I've loved my Tube Screamer for years.

Re: Which one should I get?

Both great pedals. I have a Keeley'd 808, that is just plain magic with my Trad Pro and my GA-5, but it's not ideal on every rig. The OCD is more transparent, and gainier, ergo more universal, but also a bit less distinctive. If you can't try before you buy, the OCD is probably the safer bet, but then I'd steer you at a Dirty Little Secret or Box of Rock or maybe a Crunchbox. The DLS in particular is a nifty and tweakable box.

OTOH, if you really liked the TS9, one of these will make you happy. I'd actually lean towards the OCD, as the 808 and the TS9 sound rather different to me. The 808 has this lilty, tweaky thing going on in the mids, particularly with single coils. The TS9 is throatier and more, well, homogenized, and would be better emulated by the OCD.

The MI Blue Boy Deluxe is a killer Tubescreamer type, and with all those knobs, can approximate a host of sounds from that genre. Cheaper than either of yours, as well.

I only mention the sparkle drive because it is an 808 clone more or less with a mix knob.

I personally (from what i have read) would go towards the ocd, the 808s ts9's etc all seem to have to much of a mid hump for my personal taste

Re: Which one should I get?

I have the OCD and pulled it in favor of a Marshall BluesBreaker.

But my trouble stems from use of distortion following the OD in my chain.
OCD did not play well with the Satchurator.

Since you don't use distortion, you may like the OCD.

I say OCD. I love mine, and it never fails me. It's a great booster as well as a rich, harmonic overdrive.

I have played on a couple and yeah, sounded good. Like any other TS type pedal your amp just needs to be good and hot for it to sound its best.

Re: Which one should I get?

Forget the TS-808. Spring for the Maxon OD-9. It's better quality and actually has true bypass.

Roughly the same cost, too.

Re: Which one should I get?

These are two very different pedals IMO. The OCD is a great Marshall in a box sound. In fact its probably the best I've heard at getting that sound. The OCD has a mild amount of mid cut. The OCD also has way more gain on tap than the 808. The 808 has the famous mid hump, which I feel is less pronounced in the 808 vs the TS9. More of a rounded tone. Probably better for blues. I would def get an 808 over a TS9 because I think the current crop of TS9 reissues still come with the horrible TL77... blah blah chip which sounds horrible. Also, there's only about 52,459 different TS808 clone/derivative, so don't feel you have to stick with Ibanez. I just picked up the other Fulltone, the Fulldrive 2 MOSFET, and it does the whole 808 thing quite well. If I were you, I'd get both

Re: Which one should I get?

I can hook you up with the pedal I designed if you’re interested.
It's in the same sonic ballpark, but it's not going to be as midrangy as TS (or it's clones) and a smoother overdrive than the OCD (IMHO).

Re: Which one should I get?

There's a Luther Drive in the classifieds here as well, Blake. Basically a souped up TS808.

Re: Which one should I get?

Since you asked which of these two, I would go OCD without thinking twice. Lots of gain and transparency. And, as already pointed by others, the Tubescreamer circuit has evolved into myriads of options from others, so I don't think it's price is justified.

And since there is a lot of name dropping:

Maxon OD-808 (practically the same thing with TS-808, but with a better price!)
Other OD by Maxon as well are great
The Luther Drive by Gearmanndude is a great, warm OD, based on the OD-808
The Fulltone Fulldrive II -Mosfet is one of the best ''editions'' of the TS-808
Visual Sound Route 808 (great one, affordable and has a bass boost)
MI Audio Blues Boy / Blues Pro

And...one which is one my wish-list:

CMATMODS Signa Drive (fabulous pedal!!!!)

But if you decide to go the Marshall-sound way:
MI Audio Crunch Box
ZVEX Box of Rock
Wampler Plextortion

(yeah, I know, too many choices out there...)

Good luck!

Re: Which one should I get?

Of the two you first asked about, I'd say the OCD despite not having used one. I have the TS 808 & whilst it is a great pedal, very reliable, and has gigged with me for a number of years, the mid hump has just niggled away at me... (recently I swapped it off my board for a Dano Transparent OD, but that's another story) (but that's a great pedal for peanuts...) I beleive that the OCD has less of a mid hump, so that'd be my pick.

But if you're considering this now:

...then that's a clear winner: three levels of gain (left, right, left & right together) from one pedal. Whilst based on the Tube Screamer I gather that the mid hump isn't as big, and there's a bass swtich for each side too. Job done.

You know a pricier option that you may not have considered is the wampler hotwire, the plextortion is great and his marshall od all the quite good.

Except I have the Jeckyl and Hyde, half of which is one of their TS-like OD circuits, and I've never much cared for it in any context. I can't imagine two of them would be better. I'd take a Bad Monkey in a heartbeat over this one.

Come to think of it, for $20 or so used, you could do a hell of a lot worse than a BM, and then get something in the transparent (Cool Cat for dirt cheap) or Marshall-in-a-box category, say a Crunchbox, or go wacky and grab a Muff variant.

Hm, for a cheap TS9/808, the Guitarfetish Greenie sounds pretty nice in the clips too.

If you don't mind supporting the big box stores, check by Guitar Center this weekend and see if they have the MXR Classic Overdrive. Very TS-like, and only $29.

Re: Which one should I get?

To me, they're so different sounding.... I have to have both in my collection.

I like the TS-808 for the warmth and I like the OCD for the edge.

As a boost I prefer the TS-808 cause it fattens up my lead tone more than the OCD.

But as a standalone OD tone..... they're both 2 different but equally sweet flavors.
