Radial Tonebone Plexitube...WOW
I just got this pedal today. Holy crap...it's amazing.
The best distortion pedal I have ever used. It has so much gain on tap. I like the fact that the pedal has an actual tube in it. It's a pricey pedal, but I was able to find a sweet deal on a new one on ebay. Anyone else have/tried this pedal?

Re: Radial Tonebone Plexitube...WOW
I've been thinking about getting one of these. It reminds me of the old Ibanez Tube King pedals that had an actual tube in 'em. I want to use it for some smaller solid state amps that I have. (I'd like to find a good crunch box I can put in front of a cheap SS amp and line out into a PA with for the Open Jams and sit ins...)
I may just have to pull the trigger on it. (I'm also hoping I can use it on my 50 watt Marshall head when the dirty channels can't keep up with the larger cover band. It's loud enough for the power trio, but it has issues on the crunch and lead channels with the 5 piece ensemble....)

That's what I did...threw it in front of my old ss Fender Princeton 112 Plus. I have yet to plug it into my Peavey Classic 30. I'm assuming it will sound great!

I don't have any way to record...I really need to work on that. But, the ProGuitarShop demo Ermghoti posted is really good. There are also a few other ones on YouTube that aren't too bad.

Re: Radial Tonebone Plexitube...WOW
I got this. Scary stuff. Way way too much gain on tap! I never thought id say that. Hahaha!!! Totally great pedal! But the 15v thing is bugging me. Need to find a better adaptor.

That 15v thing is the only reason I haven't bought this for myself yet. I'd like to give a try though. Sounds like a great pedal.

Re: Radial Tonebone Plexitube...WOW
Yeah. Mind you, I said " too much gain " referring to channel B. But that can be dialed down with the trim pot at the side of the chassis. And it's almost like an amp in the sense that there's an effect loop that only affects the B channel, like many 2 channel amps. Good stuff!
Btw, I have a friend who has the classic trimode, who changed the pedal from a 12ax7 to a 12au7, and the gain level dropped tremendously, but giving some serious thump and grind. Nice, big and loose. I got to try that with the plexitube!

Hey Stephen. I'm assuming, by now, you've had a chance to run this through your C30. How do you like it? I have a C50 and I'm looking for something like this. Curious what you thoughts are. Thanks.

Re: Radial Tonebone Plexitube...WOW
If it helps, I have a Fulltone GT500 that I run in front of a Classic 30 and it sounds fantastic..plus you get the extra Boost side for solos...it's like an OCD on roids!!

Re: Radial Tonebone Plexitube...WOW
Thanks, I'll check it out. I've been a Strat guy for a while and my C50 with a TS9 gave me a great bluesy OD tone. Now I have a LP and I'm looking for more of an overdriven Marshall type tone. Gary Moore, Warren Haynes, Maybe even some Slash. If I'm going to spend $300 on an OD pedal, it better be great. Otherwise, I'll save up and buy a Marshall.

Re: Radial Tonebone Plexitube...WOW
Yeah, I took my own guitar into GC and they lined up every pedal they had in the range of Drive/OD/Distortion and they had a C30 there. I played thru them all and the GT500 sounded the best to me. YMMV, but I love this damn thing honestly...lol..
Cheers, DD ..ps...this was with a guitar that has humbuckers in it..fyi... |
