Updating Pedal Board!

I'm updating my pedalboard, and I'm having a few problems with what to buy.
I'm playing a Gretsch full body Electromatic through a solid state Laney.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I'm look for:

Smooth Distortion (Slash or Joe Satriani).
Flanger or Chorus (I can't stand Boss pedals before you suggest).
EQ Pedal.
Tuner Pedal.

I hate Boss pedals, and I hate those pedal companies where you get something expensive, and it's hard to find again if you need to buy again.

Re: Updating Pedal Board!

1.) Box of Rock or Vox Satchurator (nails Satch's sound, but not very versatile otherwise) or MI Audio Crunch Box for a Marshall sound
2.) Red Witch Empress (chorus) or EVH 117 (flanger)
3.) MXR 118 (10 band)
4.) Korg Pitchblack

Re: Updating Pedal Board!

My main priority is a dirt box. I'm really diggin' overdrive over distortion though. Fuzz is too, fuzzy for me. I've been looking at Digitech stuff too. Still, more suggestions?

Re: Updating Pedal Board!

I can't stress Fulltone enough, I really can't.

For a Chorus, I know you hate Boss pedals, but if you find an old CE-2 from the 80s, they were analog and really incredible. I can also recommend the visual sound H20 chorus/echo.

EQ: Just like Pwozzie said the MXR 10 band.

Tuner Pedal: The new TC electronics polytune.

Re: Updating Pedal Board!

Teemunknee, I've seen your reply of 'Favourite Pedal Brands'. Are MXR any good at Dirt pedals or are they just great for the other stuff?

Another great Chorus is the MXR stereo chorus...tis sweeeeet ! and I haven't been happy with most MXR distortions, IMHO.

Fulltone Fulltone Fulltone!!!

The Fulldrive 2 is the most natural and transparent sounding OD I have ever heard. Also, some modded DS-1s sound in-credible for the price. Definitely worth looking into.

Boss OD3tually sounds nice. I know I hate Boss pedals, but it's their greatest pedal by far!

Re: Updating Pedal Board!

I'd advice the Way Huge Fat Sandwich for every amplifier that isn't a tube amp going into a nice crunch of its own already. It's a pedal with a strong character and is therefore more capable of sounding great on its own with any amp. Most of the boutique dirt-boxes perform best when used with a not-so-clean tube amp.

That said, wouldn't you rather invest in the tone of tubes, rather than trying to find a way to get tone from that bag of chips ?

I can't speak of the sammich but, tubes would bring you something that SS just can't.

Re: Updating Pedal Board!

If you're kind of on a budget, I really like the MXR GT-OD as an overdrive/clean boost. It seems to add a nice mid quality that I dig. For chorus, I like the Digitech Chorus Factory. Lots of lush, usable chorus on tap...

Re: Updating Pedal Board!

The TC Electronics Poly Tune is fantastic.
MXR 6 Band (the 10 band is like a eq mixed with a Sonic Maximizer) The 6 is more organic.

You might also like the Visual Sound H20 Chorus, I do. It can go from very lush to very subtle.
