Best drive pedal for $100-$150
At this point in time, 300 of you have read my "carbon copy vs aqua puss" forum, but I also need a good drive pedal for the ones on my digitech rp155 just don't cut it (90% of the time anyways). anyways, I have about 150 dollars right now and want to know the best drive pedal for the cash. Some that I've considered: vox satchurator, pro co rat, keeley modded bd-2, keeley modded ds-1, and the ts-9. Please feel free to recommend me to anything in my price range.
thanks, And have a Freakin' Amazing Day!

You're about to get a lot of suggestions, so be prepared to be overwhelmed.
For me personally I have loved the Fulltone Fulldrive and GT-500. Both are very flexible and can suit a variety of setups well. Just for clarification, what guitar, amp, and style of music would this pedal hopefully help you to achieve? Knowing that would help taylor the responses.

Re: Best drive pedal for $100-$150
Oh snap! I'm sorry everyone! please for give me!
I play for the youth band at my church, and we do not have a drummer. I play with 2 other acoustic guitarists, 2 singers(one plays guitar) and a bassist. I usually play through a pa system, but I never get the sound I want through my rp155. don't get me wrong, The rp155 is a great pedal effect-wise, but the drive isn't the greatest, unfortunately. anyways, I i usually either have too ballsy of a tone, or a fuzzy one. At home I use a 10 watt marshal(solid state), and it just sounds great, but it the overdrive drives the rp155 crazy. THAT is why I need a drive. most preferably one that I can roll down the volume and smoothen it out and reduce gain. in other words, a dynamic one. thank you everyone for your thoughts. |

Hmm... you may be better off saving your money and shooting for a better amp, but that's just my opinion. As far as pedal recommendations, I'd go with one of these two:
There's always the good ole' Tubescreamer, of which there are about 1000 varieties. The two pedals I've recommended have been on a lot of my friends' pedal boards that are worship band players. And a shameless plug - I have an AC booster listed in the Classifieds and I'll cut you a good deal if you're interested.

I'd sell it for $100 shipped. If you're interested, shoot me an email at jvasek @ crosspt dot org or get up to 50 posts real quick and we can PM through MLP.

What I do like about this pedal is that it has independent treble and bass EQs. For rhythm stuff you can crank the bass a bit more and if you need it to really cut through the mix the treble will help. Think of it as a very flexible Tubescreamer with a bit more gain. That's pretty much the territory it covers.

now that's cool! that's what I need! how much output does it have? I usually have troubles being either too loud or too quiet.

Re: Best drive pedal for $100-$150
sweet, the cool thing is, that I've been looking at these exotic effect boosts for a while now. BTW I have no amp now, other than a little marshal I occasionally steal the pre-amp from on stage.
(it has a line out) I am listening to the pro guitar shop demo as we speak, and it is pretty cool I must admit.

You have to be careful about watching Pro Guitar Shop demos. They're good, but they'll suck you in to getting gear just because it's cool!

How about a TIM or TIMMY? I've got the TIMMY and it's great through a Marshall Plexi.

Great shape. No scratches or chips but has Velcro on the back for mounting to a pedal board.

Re: Best drive pedal for $100-$150
Okay, I use the Fulltone OCD quite a bit. Version "4" I think
I can also recommend the CMATMOD Brownie. Another surprise for me was the Boss SD1. I haven't used it in awhile but when I got the Tele, I tried it back out and wow a nice little combo with the Tele. Sounds good through most of my amps. I like the CMATMOD Signa Drive but I don't have one anymore. You may want to check that one out too! I second the opinion on the other Fulltone pedals mentioned above...

Thanks Gibsonblues, you always come through for me
![]() Anyways, yes I Like both the sd-1 and the ds-1, I like having one of these so that I can get one of the delays in the other forum. and by second, do you mean disagree? |
