Do you guys buy the extended warranty?

Like the title says, when purchasing a new pedal or accessory, how often do you buy the extended warranty?

I usually do for an expensive purchase, like a guitar or something... I think I bought it for my MXR 10Band EQ...

I'm about to buy a EVH Phase 90, do you recommend the extended GC warranty for $19.99?

Mind you I only play at home...

never, out of all the new pedals I have bought (a guess at 25) only once have I had a problem and that was easy to fix....When it comes to pedals, they are supposed to sit on the floor and be stomped so, I figure they should hold up to heavy use.....also, I have not bought for other stuff...

Never. The only extended warranties I buy are for devices with tape transports because they all inevitably break down. I did buy new tires recently and bought an extended warranty on them but it was only $5 per tire and I figured "What's another 20 bucks after spending $1052 for tires, balancing and alignment?"

I never buy extended warranties for anything - guitar gear, cars, electronics, etc. It's most often a waste of money that could have been saved in the first place.

Think about how much a car's warranty will cost you - then think about some of the repair costs. A lot of the time you need to have some major repairs before you can account for the cost of the warranty itself.

IME, any time I've had a problem with a pedal it was within the first 30 days. Most retailers (like GC) have a 30 day return policy & will replace the pedal anyway. So, no...never.

I disagree. Cars are about the only thing an extended warranty is worth buying for. I am in the car business and I see first hand every day people making warranty claims in the service department. I also see others kicking themselves for not buying the warranty as well.

It is true that warranties are available for way too many things these days and you would lose in the long run if you always bought them. I don't buy them on dishwashers, washing machines, TV's, etc. But I will always buy one for a car after working at a car dealership. Aside from a home, cars are the most expensive thing most people ever purchase and you can't quite pull them in your garage and take a wrench to them like you used to.

Anyway, I say no to warranties on just about everything (including guitar gear) except cars.

I wouldn't by one for an effects pedal. Check the manufacturer's warranty too. It's usually pretty decent. I had a Blues Jr. that I bought a couple of years ago. When the tranny died, I learned that I had a 5-year warranty through Fender, so the fix cost me nothing but gas to get it to the repair facility.

I see that as well, but I also see a majority of those claims falling under the manufacturer's warranty. At least that's where my personal experiences have led me. None of the extended warranties my family has purchased have payed out close to what they cost.

Perhaps I've just been lucky so far.

I wouldn't bother on a pedal, I don't get them on cheaper items.

Oftentimes to get warranty service you have to ship a product and pay for it-that may cost more than it would to buy a new one--or even if shipping is cheaper, it may be a significant percentage.
