Fulltone OCD

My buddy was raving about this pedal at practice, and I've read some stuff on the forums about it... ugh.. I thought I had enough pedals, but I did some youtubing and I'm like WOW this pedal kicks so much ass... I MUST RESIST THE PURCHASE (at least 2-3 weeks hehe).

Anyone have experience with Fulltone? Is it a standard 9v that will work with a 1spot type daisy chain?

Re: Fulltone OCD

I've got version 1 of the pedal (current issue is V3)...it's a great pedal, and it adds lots of overtones. You hit a 2-note power chord and let it ring, and you'll hear lots of intervals and octaves...really cool sounding.

A standard 9-volt will power it.

Fulltone gear is top-notch. I'd recommend buying from a dealer instead of eBay or whatever. If upgrades come out he'll often do them for free if you have an original receipt. That's why my OCD is still V1...got it on eBay.

They're in v4 now :P

I was going to get it from humbuckermusic.com which is where I ordered my emg's from.. they have the v4 for 143 and shipping is usually free (it was for my emg's).. and I got in like two days. I'll have to email them about the upgrade thing though.

All in all, it's a very impressive pedal.. is it designed more for using on the clean channel, or can you put it on top of a gain channel as well?

Re: Fulltone OCD

You can run it with the gain channel, and you'll probably find that you don't need to have the drive on the pedal on too high.

I typically ran mine at 12-1 o'clock, and it was great. I ran a TS9 before it, and would boost it even more...WOW. (TS9 settings: Drive--9 o'clock, Tone-11 o'clock, Level-3 o'clock)

That's a good price. I think I paid $150 or so for mine.

Awesome, I was thinking how it will sound with my tube screamer with just a touch of drive... (evil laugh).. it's funny because it's going on ebay for like 160-180 (for v1-v3) when the brand new one is cheaper.. confusing...

Re: Fulltone OCD

Hah--dudes, trying to squeeze out every cent...

You'll love how it interacts with the TS9...it's the infamous "This one goes to 11" sound. That's the only way I can describe it.

You're gonna love it...

Re: Fulltone OCD

I have V1 and love it..I bought V3 about 6 months ago and sold it, I just liked V1 better. I'm now stacking it with my Analogman Beano Boost and it's sounds even better. Great for Clapton (Beano), T Rex, and Brian May etc. tones..

Re: Fulltone OCD

Dude, you know it. I like my V1 as well.

I must admit that lately I haven't used it as much. I'm using my 80's BK Butler Tube Driver for about everything--it's giving me a vintage tone that I love.

The OCD is an awesome pedal to have in the arsenal; it'll be staying with me.

Re: Fulltone OCD

Love it, the OCD is by far the best overdrive I have tried.
I don't even use it that much, but it will stay on my board.
I am trying to move just from the guitar to the amp....

I've got version 3. And, like you guys have said, it does enhance other OT pedals when used together. It's really a great pedal.

Re: Fulltone OCD

You might try calling other dealers outside your state. The Fulltone site might help--you might be able to buy one online from them, as well.

Eddie's Guitars in STL might have one. Don't much care for the store folks, but they might have one in stock. 314.781.7500

Yeah it is ridiculous that the older ones sell for so much. But then again I tried a version 3 and didn't like it nearly as well as the version 2 a buddy of mine had let me demo. It's what made me want one but when I got my version 3 I sent it back after messing with it for a week or two. It just didn't sound the same.
The general consensus seems to be that version 2 is the best, with some favoring the version 1, but both are generally regarded as sounding much better than the 3. I've not heard a 4 so I can't comment on that.

It seems odd to me that Mike Fuller keeps changing them from the first or second designs when people keep wanting them to go back to making them the other way. I asked them about converting my version 3 to a two or telling me what parts to get to do it and they didn't even want to talk to me.

Re: Fulltone OCD

the OCD is a great pedal a cool feature is that you can run on 18volt as well.

it "feels" a lot more dynamic on 18 volt than 9volt

frickkin awsome thats how.
with drive @ 9:00 it gets a great overdrive ala 70's Robin Trower tone.

the pedal gets meaner the higher it :slash goes...I hardly go over 11:00 and
get THICK GREASY GOOEY SWEETNESS, and I play everthing from
P-FUNK to VELVET REVOLVER.

I contacted a few stores off fulltone's dealer list, but no one got back to me. Luckily, I did an ebay search and a seller had one as a buy-it-now and it was the last one left

It definitely wasn't there the past couple days, so I got lucky

Re: Fulltone OCD

I had the V3 but i sold it off..and im regretting it.

with the gain knob turned passed 10 o clock, the overdrive just sounds like mush through my LP. But it is nonetheless, the best OD i've had compared to the tubescreamer, barber drive etc.

I've heard the v1 is brighter, comments here seem to confirm that. I've not tried the v4 but if i had the cash, i might get be getting that.

Re: Fulltone OCD

I have the v.2

this was the first OD pedal that i bought in over 25 years. so let that speak for itself.

its very transparent. so when i use it as a boost with my amps builtin OD i usualy forget that its on.

very natural tube sounding.

i find it works best on 15 volts to my ears atleast.

going from 4-5 on the dial makes a huge diff in tone. so tweaking is a lot of fun

i usually have mine set bet 11 and 12 oclock LP mode

all i can say is give it a shot. if you dont like it you can always get 75% of you money back on ebay.

I ran the one I tried at 9v but still at about the same settings you described and I thought the V2 sounded way better than the V3 I bought and returned.
It was one of the best soundind OD's I've ever played through next to my Xotic BB preamp. The BB was just as pleasing to my ear but had a definite different type of sound. The V2 OCD was very transparent and responded well to picking dynamics.

The V3 seemed to have more gain at every setting and just didn't do it for me. I'm trying some different pedals now to see if I can find something similar to use with my BB. The Lovepedal COT and Eternity are on my list. I'm demoing a Pedalworx Cactus Crunch right now and I have a Lovepedal 200lbs of tone on order.

Re: Fulltone OCD

I have a v4. Love it. Stacks amazingly well. Seems to me that it is because it keeps the lows intact so well. So when you pair it with something like a Tejas(TS clone, nice mids) you get the best of both worlds.

Re: Fulltone OCD

I just went into my local GC to buy a Boss DS-1. I usually don't play really heavy stuff and am jamming with a band that plays Motorhead, Godsmack... I happened to notice out of the corner of my eye a box behind the counter that said O.C.D. When I asked the sales guy, he said that they had just gotten 2 in, a couple of hours ago, one was reserved and had been picked up. The salesman was going to buy the second one himself but asked (sorta reluctantly) if I was interested. Yada yada yada, I have my v4 OCD now!!! OMFG it is bad ass. Super tone and really "throaty" (is that a guitar term or only used for cars?), and it's great with the cheapo Boss DS-1 stacked after it too. Great buy highly recommended if you can find one!

Re: Fulltone OCD

Hah, I finally got ahold of a V2. Actually I bought a V1 as well which is supposed to sound basically the same with a little more highs and bass. But I was really wanting a V2 since that is the one I fell in love with. I'll try them both and keep the one I like better.

Re: Fulltone OCD

Well I've been playing around with both a V1 and V2 OCD and have decided to keep the V2 and sell the V1. The V2 just fits my taste more with a little more mid and a little smoother high. The V1 is still an awesome pedal but with a little more grindish distortion and a little more highs. More Marshally sounding. The V2 is a little smoother, thicker sounding pedal with more mids but overall they are just awesome pedals, very transparent and natural sounding. I wish I could just keep them both but there's really no need for two I suppose.

Re: Fulltone OCD

I have a V3. I also have a love-hate relationship with it. Struggled to get it into any board config until this last week as a thick-boost for my matchless. Those two things seem to match up pretty well. Volume all the way up, drive all the way down, tone to taste. Need to try it against the BB preamp in this config, but it definitely adds just enough oomph and thickness.

Am I nuts to see the ReezaFRATzitz and go for an OCD?...

However much I liked the Reeza, in band context I can never dial it to stand out without getting drowned out by everything else. Only solution I could come with was to add an EQ after it.
