Power Supply for Pedals

I picked up a external power supply and having not used one before... do the batteries need to be taken out of the pedals when using the power supply?

Thanks... GB

Well I know my Barber has to have batterys left in them so I leave the batteries in all of mine anyway.

Thanks.... I didn't think it would hurt leaving them in but I wasn't sure.

Re: Power Supply for Pedals

i wonder if there is a way to take the batteries out and jump their connections together, or if the batteries play another role besides a power supply.

I wouldn't be surprised but I'm no authority on this stuff!

Re: Power Supply for Pedals

they can be left in there without any issues. most pedals bypass the battery completely when there is something plugged into the power jack. in fact, if you're plugged in and there's some kind of power failure, the battery won't even work until you pull the power adapter jack out on most pedals. that said, i like to pull the batteries out anyway, just to save some weight moving em around.

Re: Power Supply for Pedals

I would take them out if your playing at home. Batteries can leak and cause a mess inside your pedal. It's happenend to me. It's a good idea to have batteries in each pedal when you're playing a gig though. If you or some other drunk stands, trips, falls, etc. and a power cable would get pulled you would still have juice.

This why I always remove them. None of my pedals require leaving a battery in.

Re: Power Supply for Pedals

I just tested four of my pedals and all work without the battery. What's really interesting is that the EH pedals don't use batteries - external power only.

Electro Harmonix Holy Grail Nano (reverb)
Electro Harmonix Memory Man (delay)
MXR Dyna Comp (compression)
MXR EVH Phase 90 (phase)
Boss CE-3 (chorus) didn't test
