I got my BYOC reverb in the post this monday and thought I'd post my thoughts.
The build... It was very easy to assemble. Instructions are good but you don't really need them because every part value is listed on the board so you know exactly how to put it together without looking at anything in the instructions. The tone... The delay from the brick is too long. It's about twice as long as your standard fender reverb so it boarders on sounding like an echo rather than reverb but there isn't much that BYOC can do about that. They use the short brick and it's the best sounding digital reverb device available to DIY builders so we are pretty stuck. The other "problem" is that the reverb is way too much for the average player. Matt said he wanted it to give you insane amounts of reverb on tap but it's got sooooo much that turning it to 1 is more than you will get from a fender reverb and 2 is more than most people could ever hope for. Half way up you hear more reverb than original signal. The good news is that by replacing 1 resistor you can bring it down to usable levels so it's not a big deal. If you replace that 1 resistor with a trim pot then you can easily adjust the range to your liking. This is the only thing I would change on the pedal. The dwell knob works great for tone shaping. Crank it up and it gives you a metallic tone while turning it down gives you a smoother tone. The tone knob is exactly what I want from a tone knob. It's sweep is perfect and the sweet spot is right at 12 O'clock which is perfect! All and all it's a very nice pedal. If they ever make a reverb brick with a shorter delay than the current one I will swap that out but otherwise the pedal does exactly what I want it to. Spring reverb tone with light "chatter" when you pick a note hard but without the rattling a feedback you get from real spring reverb at high volume. I'll get a sound clip up in the next couple days.
