Re: good OD pedal for pushing a marshall-esqe tube?

If all you want is some boost to feed the amp's natural distortion, I suggest an EQ. Leave it flat and just turn up the "level". Or adjust the sliders and have some fun.

+1, River.
Many people overlook this one, plus the inexpensive flexibility it provides.

Re: good OD pedal for pushing a marshall-esqe tube?

I just got one of these two weeks ago, $50. Not a pedal, but I'm sure that's an option. The effect is magical. I'm finding myself using one set of slider settings, (progressive boost of mids) and just adjusting the level (up for my P-90, flat for my humbuckers) to control driving the amp into distortion.

Re: good OD pedal for pushing a marshall-esqe tube?

i would like a pedal though.... ive been thinking about a marshall bluesbreaker II for a long while. the BOOST setting doesnt seem to affect tone at all and adds saturation from the amp not the pedal which is what im looking for. and i hear the blues setting is very "plexi" sounding. im just looking for any other options available.

Re: good OD pedal for pushing a marshall-esqe tube?

TS-9 and BD-2 both work for me. TS-9 is a bit more brash, BD-2 can do the transparent boost. Also the MXR Micro Amp is very under-rated as a clean boost.

Re: good OD pedal for pushing a marshall-esqe tube?

There are lots of EQ pedal options. I just can't speak for them, specifically.

Shop Guitar Effects, Guitar Effects Pedals, Equalization & Tone Shaping | Musician's Friend

I can't recommend this site and the articles it provides too highly: Distortion and power-tube saturation voicing: using the "eq->dist->eq" sequence

Same goes for paying attention to Liam.

Re: good OD pedal for pushing a marshall-esqe tube?

Any kind of clean boost will do. EQs are nice if you want to shape your tone some when boosting, but if you just want more volume, stick with something simple. The Catalinbread Super Chili Picoso and Zvex Super Hard On are both good for that.

+1 on all counts. Based on this link River posted earlier, I bought both the 6 and the 10 band MXR EQ's for different rigs. I reccomend them both.

I use a Metal Muff, which is probably more distortion than you'd want, but I also have a N.O.C. 3 Pure Drive. It's outstanding.

Re: good OD pedal for pushing a marshall-esqe tube?

i use a keeley katana and it works out great with my ocd for a good kick in the seat for my amp. Can be used alone with the knob pulled out for a little dirt as well

Barber. Direct drive or LTD. Can do boost, or OD. Reasonable priced ($119 i think for DD). They seem really good, popular.

Re: good OD pedal for pushing a marshall-esqe tube?

I use a Keeley TS-808 for boosting, but I also wanted a different kind of sound for solos. Otherwise I would have used my MXR booster as a clean boost.
