Octave pedal recos?
I had my heart set on a Micro POG pedal. I spied one on Craiglist, but the seller flaked out on me, and it's been difficult to find another used one under the $120 mark. That said, I figure I'd ask here if there are alternatives to the Micro POG pedal I should be considering.
In essence, I'm trying to get a pedal that shifts the octave both upwards and downwards so that I can get some chimey 12-string type sound as well as some deep bellowy sound. I'm quite fond of the simplicity of Micro POG, but don't know too much about other octave pedals out there. Any recos? Cheers. |

Re: Octave pedal recos?
No specific recommendations, but poke around at some of the old or new Digitech multieffect units. My old band had a rack unit back in the late 90's with a pitch shifting function that sounded pretty good if used in moderation. Rock solid tracking. I don't know if they can do both octave up and down, but it's worth a look.

Re: Octave pedal recos?
i liked the boss oc-2, though it's only octave down. i liked the foxrox octron also. it will go up/down -- down is clean, up will add some dirt. i ended up keeping the ehx pog2. i like that it's polyphonic, smaller than the original pog, and can be dialed to give you some crazy sh*t.

Re: Octave pedal recos?
I'm looking for octave-down, with as little distortion as possible. That's the only effect I want that my POD X3 doesn't have - it does have a 1X and 2X octave-down effect, but it introduces some rather unpleasant distortion on sustained notes.

Re: Octave pedal recos?
Here are a few solutions and problems.
The cheapest route I’ve found is using a Boss OC2 for the octave down and a Danelectro French Toast for the octave up. You have to set the gain pretty low and the cut the treble in the eq, but this sounds pretty damn good. The problem with both these pedals and most octave or harmony pedals is that they are not multi phonic, and can’t track chords, only signal notes. I can’t remember if the micro POG tracked chords. The Boss OC3 supposedly tracks chords, but I’ve never tried it. The best pedal for tracking chords or trying to get a 12 string effect would be the regular POG. The problem is I’ve rarely seen them got for much under $300. |

Re: Octave pedal recos?
the micro pog supposedly tracks chords, tho i've never tried one. there are subtle differences between the original pog and the pog2. original pog could give your tone a little hair (which i miss), the pog2 is a little smoother i find. pog2 delivers a higher sampling rate, attack filter (whilch is fantastic), and presets. i really like my pog2.
boss gives you a very clean octave down, if that's all you need. the best-sounding octave pedal i've ever played was the octron. like guysmiley said, it can't track chords, but it delivers a very nice, natural monophonic octave up/down effect. it's analog, and i find it sounds a bit thicker and warmer than the pogs. dave fox sometimes has b-stock pedals for sale on his site for cheaper than they go for new. Can I ask my question in this thread too about an octave pedal?
I'm redoing my entire pedalboard, Preferably with as much "true bypass" pedals as possible. I would like an octave pedal that can give me a good 12-string effect, and something I can use with a expression pedal (Ernie Ball) as 1 octave up or 1 octave down. Basically, A higher end Digitech Whammy pedal. I think the only way to get something like that would be to run a POG2 for the 12-string (organ and etc) and I'd have to find or have someone build me a "pitch shifter" stomp-box that can use an expression pedal. -Ben |

Re: Octave pedal recos?
for 12 string you want a polyphonic octave pedal. pog2 absolutely rules as far as i'm concerned -- a good deal of fun to be had with it in your chain. the attack control on it is fantastic, and it really lets you get some nice swells and violin/string/organ type effects. if you want something even more robust, you can look at the ehx hog, which has an expression pedal input. only thing with the hog is that once you tally up the pedal, footswitch, and expression pedal, it can get very pricey.
