What delay pedal do you like?
What do you like to simply thicken up your guitar tone? I was thinking of the new Hardwire Digitech, but it may be overkill for what I what. What goodies do you like?

Analogman AR20DL. Reminds me of the old purple Boss Flanger I had when I was a teen, sounds good and is easy to use.

Re: What delay pedal do you like?
Just to thicken up your tone, or do you what a lot of bells and whistles? Any delay would probably work if you can get a real short slap back or almost a doubling timing dialed it. Analog with sound more low fi then digital. But, both have their good uses.

Re: What delay pedal do you like?
I'm a big fan of this critter. It allows one to do 3 pre-sets AND if you have the "expression pedal" it's possible to have 6 pre-sets (you can program a sound for each end of the pedal throw. Also as you move between the two it's sweeping so, you're ear can guide you as you go along)
There's much cool stuff to be found in this unit.

Re: What delay pedal do you like?
If it's just for short delays for thickening and general aural effects, any cheapo analogue delay will do. I have an old PSK analogue delay made of finest plastic, which is a pretty good copy of the old Boss analogue delay, and it sounds excellent. I think I bought it for $40 new.
I think the MXR Carbon Copy is over-rated, and here's why. For the type of thing you're talking about the MXR will do the job, but it's more expensive than some other devices that will do it better. I would recommend you go to a shop and try some, and don't discount the nasty cheap shite. Danelectro analogue delays, for example. You never know what your ears may turn up if you don't let the sales people bug you too much.

Thanks guys, after reading some reviews, I'm going to check out the MXR. It's sound perfect for what I want.

Re: What delay pedal do you like?
I like the Carbon Copy. I like the way it thickens the sound with a bit of a "wash", rather than having a very faithful repeat sound. But there's a lot you can do with the "pseudo tape" modulation to clean that up if you want. Couple of trim pots in the back of the pedal you can attack.
Annoying things with my one were that the battery clip was faulty (replaced it myself as it was quicker/easier than sending the pedal back) and the LEDs were much too bright for stage use (modified them to get them a lot dimmer). I've got an old Danelectro Dan Echo as well. It's pretty good, although it doesn't sound anything like as organic as the MXR CC. My favourite is the WEM Deluxe Copicat (3 playback head transistor version), but they are expensive, finicky, and hard to find nowadays. Liam |

Re: What delay pedal do you like?
i like the behringer vintage time machine. nice DMM 'inspired' device. i got the line 6 echo park last week and am not bonding with it, it just doesn't sound right and adds some noise.

Re: What delay pedal do you like?
I use the Modtone delay pedal. I compared it to the carbon copy and thought it sounded as good....

Re: What delay pedal do you like?
Sorry for this meta-post, but it's amazing to me how you can get a dozen replies recommending ten different pedals. The proliferation of botique pedals has just exploded in the last couple of years, or so it seems, and everyone has their favorite. It appears impossible to get a consensus on gear anymore.
As such, I think that general questions like this one are almost pointless if what you're after is a recommendation. Maybe that's not what the OP is after, but to anyone who is I suggest asking about very specific pieces of equipment and fielding people's experiences with them. I think you're far more likely to get useful, focused, information than the shotgun approach of, "What does everybody use?", cuz you're just gonna get a different answer from just about everyone who replies.

Re: What delay pedal do you like?
I think for the price, I'm going to try the modtone or the memory boy. Premiere Guitar really liked the memory boy. And they're made in the US, I like that.

Re: What delay pedal do you like?
I do want to thank you all for weighing in. I'm going analog, and I'm going cheap. I can get the Memory Toy for $78.00 from Amazon, I get free shipping.
It's made in the US, and if it sucks, I'll send it back. Cheers, and thanks again for the insight.

Re: What delay pedal do you like?
I think these sorts of reviews are useful if people give reasons why they like or didn't like it. I know I always try to explain my opinion so it's more than:
'Hey, I really like this new toy!! Kewwwl That sort of thing is not much use to the reader. But an explanation gives the reader some insight into the features and nature of the gear in question. That's why I posted that review of the Carbon Copy in the thread I linked. Not to bag anyone who's ever bought one, but to point out the limitations of the thing as it exists in my signal chain. It seems to suit some people just fine, but it won't do several important things. No other review I'd read mentioned this, so it bears mentioning. It's not a bad pedal per see, but I'd not have bought it had I known those important points. And also, what I don't like about it might be precisely the kind of thing that you want in that kind of toy. ![]() So I think it's useful to put the information out there.

Re: What delay pedal do you like?
I think some people just like to be confrontational. If i find a thread that doesn't interest me, I move on, rather than slag the people that are finding it useful. That's just me, I could be wrong.

Re: What delay pedal do you like?
delay pedal shotouts by proguitarshop
I myself am partial to EH memory man but, it a bit thick....and has it's own tone...also, the MB looks cool but there has been so questions about it....some people have found it too quriky...check out EH's forum.... I really like the flexibility of a digital pedal but, I have not played any that sound good in front of an amp...my nova delay steals a bit of tone and TC has pretty good convertors...however there is a digital pedal out there that is using very good convertors...I can not remember the name though...sorry....someone will... I have been extremely happy with my analogue man pedals...and I have some home brew electronics pedals that I like very much....but, I do not own any of ethers deleys....however I would have no problem spending the money on either....I really like my EH MM so, I end up buying other types of pedals....(I really want to check out the new auto Q type pedal from EH...not to mention the MB and I always think about getting the muff/tone wicker even though I really have way too many OD/distortion pedals...not to mention pigtronix looks interesting and about a zillion more....peace)

Re: What delay pedal do you like?
Really like the Visual Sound H2O (Echo side) but am considering the Malekko ID-600 Bright. The Malekko is a very versatile and great sounding pedal.

Re: What delay pedal do you like?
I use the mxr carbon copy, and its on all the time. I only use delay for a little bit of slap back, nothing more. This pedal has been worth the money, there are plenty of more costly pedals but this things just works.
