Distortion OD's that work with SS and Tube Amps.

Over the past few months I've been doing a substantial amount of online research and also buying and selling various OD/Distortion Pedals in hopes of finding that 1 killer pedal. One thing that I have been finding is that most of my other effect (tremolo/flanger/echo/compressor) pedals seem to respond about the same to single coil vs humbuckers and tube vs. ss amps. However, when it comes to Dirt boxes there seems to be noticible differences in the manner that they respond.

For example, the Fulltone OCD seems to respond much better with my Tele and SS/Tube Randall amp than it does with my Epi LP and Crate Tube amp. I picked up a Keeler Designs Push pedal (a marvelous pedal) that is fantastic with the Lester or Tele with the tube amp but not great with the solid state.

Does a Dirt pedal exist that covers both SS and Tube amps, single coil and humbuckers equally well? If there is, I'd like to know because I haven't found it.

Look into some of the Seymour Duncan pedals that come with a tube for real tube distortion.

You'll want a pedal with a full eq section as well as gain and level. I'll agree with EEF to a degree. Most tube driven pedals come with a full eq and a number of fine tuning controls. I've had the ibby tubeking and ehx english muff'n and they both sounded great across both platforms. I currently have a dean overlord and it does well with them all also.

I've had one as well. The SD Twin Tube Classic. It was a good overall pedal. It could be a bit mushy in the bass and not refined. I do agree with your point that it tended not to prefer ss or tubes. I might well be asking too much from one pedal. I'm hoping maybe the Wampler Plextortion or the Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret may be closer to solving this problem.
