Peterson Strobostomp

Can anyone tell me about their experiences with the Peterson Strobostomp tuner pedal !! Thinking of getting one ! Is there a difference between the blue one and the silver version ?

Re: Peterson Strobostomp

I have a blue one...and LOVE it!!!!

Best tuner I've ever used. Fast and ultra-accurate. I actually think it's trained my ear.

I've used it outdoors during the day, and the display is quite visible. Don't try to run it on batteries only...eats 'em like candy.

Two thumbs-up!

Re: Peterson Strobostomp

check out SOUND ON SOUND (a magizine that also has a good web page) for a review of one of the portable digital peterson tunners...not the flip or the stomp but it might give you some insight

Re: Peterson Strobostomp

The newer silver models are I believe a sturdier version. There were a lot of complaints about reliability and road worthiness with the plastic jacks and case. I have the original blue model and love it! I don't gig so I can't comment on the reliability.

Re: Peterson Strobostomp

I have my blue one installed on a board, and have a gig at church almost every weekend, plus practice sessions. It gets moved a lot.

Mine works great. It's setup for true bypass, and hasn't given me any problems. I have the flip model as well, but it's not working as well as the pedal model...I think I need to read the directions.

I have read the the blue model has the inputs/outputs mounted directly on the PCB, which would be a risky thing if you were constantly plugging/unplugging it.

Maybe i'm just not as fussy about my tuner but when i tried to use the strobo i thought it jumped around too much ! Seemed like i could never get it perfectly in tune .

Buster, I have the flip tuner on my pedalboard. You will never get the strobe tuning to be perfectly stationary unless you can produce digital tones. We humans produce analog sound on our guitars, so it's OK for the tunings to be "close" but not "perfect". If the right column of the pitch wheel is stationary, your tuning is pretty much spot on. Cheers.

Re: Peterson Strobostomp

I hope they've fixed them. I had one of the original stomp models and it had a nasty hum/buzz in tuner mode. I took it back, tried another and it did the same thing. Took that back and got a Boss... Surely they've fixed that horrible glitch by now.

I'm thinking of getting one too since I'm having the Buzz Feiton Tuning system added to my EE SG. The Strobostomp has Buzz settings right in there.

You'd think the thing was flawless, considering it's a two hundred dollar TUNER

Yeah - I could have bought a nice beater to leave on a stand for the price of my strobostomp - but I gotta say it's a great tuner so far. I have the silver one and it's sturdy and incredibly accurate from what I can tell. It will eat batteries faster than a '68 Dodge Dart in the rain though!

That is crap, I have had my blue one for 2 years. The jacks are not like the boss ones, and yeah if dropped it, its gonna break etc, but I NEVER had an issue with the tuner. Its the best out there.

Re: Peterson Strobostomp

Mine's going on a year of daily abuse and still running strong, giving me no reason to worry it'll break or fail anytime soon. It's by far the best tuner I've ever come across, more accurate and reliable than anything I've seen from Boss, Korg, Sabine, etc.

Re: Peterson Strobostomp

I want one because they're one of the few that are accurate enough to do intonation correctly. I'd actually like to have an original Peterson Strobe, but that's another story.

Re: Peterson Strobostomp

I love mine. It's the the newer, silver model, the StroboStomp2. The first model had plastic jacks. And I've read some had trouble with the screens fading. Mine has been perfect (I don't gig).

The spinning dial never bothered me. It reminds me of fine tuning the speed on an old turntable. I was used to that so I was never expecting the rings to come to a dead stop. I just start at the outside ring and work my way in.
And Guitar Center came down off the list price.

Another option is the Turbo Tuner. It's cheaper, and a lot of folks seem to like it.

Re: Peterson Strobostomp

You might look into the Pitchblack+, I ordered the Pitchblack and got the 'plus' version instead. Supposed to be just as accurate and seems real sturdy and is about $50 cheaper.

I know it isn't as 'boutique' as the Peterson...

PS: Had the same battery in for about 2months of 1-2 hours of daily playing.

Thats a similar reason I bought one a few weeks ago but the instructions are quite difficult to get your head around, using a different mode for intonation than standard tuning, this thing does all sorts of weird & wonderful tunings & settings.
Maybe it's just me being a bit thick but I'll have to sit down & read it properly.

Steve.

Interesting, seems Turbo Tuner ST-200 beats it hard.

Quite a bit more accurate it would seem from the specs (+/- .02 vs. .1) - and quicker from the video. For the money I'd definitely consider it next time.

I have been very happy with me Stobostomp 2 though. I have seen the SS2 on special at GC for a good bit less than $200. Peterson has very good support too!

Check this tuner out way better than the peterson strobostomp, look how fast it recognizes the note

Re: Peterson Strobostomp

That's pretty impressive, but it doesn't really prove anything. You don't tune while playing notes...unless you're wanting to impress yourself by watching the letters fly by.

The Peterson is awesome; I'm quite happy with mine.

i heard that the strobostomp is just a digital tuner with a strobe tuner "screen". is that true?

I think the idea is that it's a simulated strobe - represented by a display that simulates the way the old 'real strobe' ones work. I'd imagine an advantage to going digital is that it doesn't need to be recalibrated the way a mechanical one would.

Check this out...
