How do You Run Your Signal Chain ???

I was wondering how most guys out there run their signal chain ? I run my R8 into my effects board which has a Loopmaster to take effects out of the chain when not in use , I run straight from the guitar to the board into my amps front end on the high channel of my JCM800 .. I've never owned an amp with an effects loop ... How do you guys run your signal ?

Re: How do You Run Your Signal Chain ???

I've only recently started using effects, after years of only havin' an Overdrive pedal between the guitar and the amp.
Did experience terrible signal loss at first and then, followin' some advice, I routed the "time" effects to the FX loop of my amp and the results are incredible!
Now I've got my TONE back with added benefits.
My signal goes as follows: Fulltone Fulldrive2 - Morley Wah - Amp.
MXR Phase90 - Ibanez Chorus - Ibanez Tonelock Delay - through the fx loop.
By goin' this way I've de-routed the "time" fx (the more signal-suckers of all...!) out of the way and the Morley and Fulltone, bein' really high quality & true-bypass, I don't even notice and, like I said before, I got my TONE back.
Two more things though; I've noticed that puttin' the Overdrive before the Wah Wah makes the later way more expressive (well, you wah wah the distortion, not the other way 'round!) and second, I've just got hold of an 80's Pearl Overdrive and the thing is sooooo jucily soundalicious that it might, just might, replace the Fulltone, but I'm not sure about that yet.

Re: How do You Run Your Signal Chain ???

I love my effects loop. It lets me run 16 pedals muhahahahahahahaha

I never gig with more than 5, but it's great being able to just power everything at once when I'm just practicing.. less time messing with cables.

I'm thinking of getting that Gig rig thing.

Re: How do You Run Your Signal Chain ???

I run my guitar into a TS-808 clone used as a boost only, then it goes to my Bud Wah from there it's the Strobostomp to the DSL's input. My FX loop goes like this: first inline is my MXR EQ then to an FX loop switcher I made. This allows me to have different FX turned on in the loop ready to be used without a bunch of tapdancing. From there she goes to EH Electric Mistress to the CH3 to the MXR Phase 90 that is modded to the DD-3 that is also modded to the Carbon copy then to the LPB-1 (not in pic) finally back to the FX switcher. Out from the FX switch it goes to the ISP Decimator which cleans up all the noise if I need it. I now use George 'L cables for everything and use a Voodoo Labs Power Plus2.

Here's the schematic for the switch. Easy and cheap to build.

Re: How do You Run Your Signal Chain ???

SG/active EMG's - preamp - audio enhancer - carvin delay/reverb - hush - mosvalve amp - into 2 2x12 cabs. All rack,all stereo,all sweetness. And not expensive.

Or I'll break out a rockerverb 50. nothing else-the reverb is that good. It is a very hissy amp though.need to get it looked at.

Re: How do You Run Your Signal Chain ???

I have only one amp with an effects loop but I never use it - but I don't use verb or delay either. I did have a DD-20 on the board for awhile but it's just not something I need.

I tend to run a few varieties of dirt in various positions before/after wah. My current gigging setup is.....

Fuzz Factory -> EH Pog -> Vox 847 Wah -> Beano Boost -> Throbak Overdrive Boost -> Throbak Stonebender -> HotCake -> TU-2 Tuner for buffer at end.

I don't worry too much about true bypass, but I do try to arrange for clarity. I like having a fuzz before and after the wah as options. I run my amps on the dirty side of "verge of breakup" (near AC/DC type overdrive) and I work the guitar volume A LOT.

Sometimes I think I have way too much dirt, but I don't run any of them at "distortion" levels of gain - I just stack 2 or 3 depending on the need for the song.

For jamming and when I want to get back to the basics sometimes I'll run just a Zvex SHO and the amp set to more gain and work the guitar - but only in rehearsals, I like having options live.

Re: How do You Run Your Signal Chain ???

I was dumb enough to put everything through the effects loop and it sounded like garbage. Since then, I studied up and now have my RAT distortion running through an MXR EQ, then into the amp. After that, I have the delay pedal and (when needed) a noise gate in the effects loop. The sound is 500% better than what I had before. When I want to throw my DS-1 in, it goes before the RAT and when I use it, I hook up the wah-pedal before the DS-1 or RAT. It seems to be more effective that way.

Guitar > Amp.

-or-

Guitar > Wah > Amp.

It depends.

letely it's been LP into Marshall wih fx send to Digitech GSP1101 and return to amp, using Digitech controller to swith amp channels and effects.

I do also run a pedal board of old school stompboxes occasionally.
