my new crybaby.

This thing is a beast, and its soooo much fun to mess around with. ive only had it for 2 days, so i dont know how to use it completely yet. My problem is that i use my right foot to tap all the time when i used to play, but now i have to use it for expressive swells, which will take some time.

BUT

heres the deal.

Why is it claimed to be the most widely used/coveted/special pedal? i personally would take a distortion pedal any day over a wah, because it is more versatile in my mind.

can anybody tell me why the dunlop crybaby is supposed to be one of th renowned pedals ever made?

I could be wrong, but I think it's because they were the first to copyright the pedal. And alot of people have used them.

They are great pedals for the price thats for sure, and tons of modifications that are readily available for them too.

I will pick one up, one of these days. But I'm still in love with my Fulltone deluxe.

Because Jimi, Satch, Slash, Clyde, and Eric used it.

expression... you can make your guitar cry, moan, wail.... you can vary the amount and intensity as well.

Re: my new crybaby.

i got the cheapest one. GCB-95.

i have gotten much more use out of it with practice, but still not as valuable as a good distortion pedal IMO

Re: my new crybaby.

Your supposed to use a wah pedal sparingly and efficiently.

+1

I started out using mine like the OP says but soon learned that it's much more effective it you chose the best time to switch it into the grid or field of pedals on your board.

I did have a great deal of fun with it though using it constantly, well, to the point of being annoying even!

Distortion pedals, to my mind, are fundamentally different from something like a wah pedal. A distortion pedal is a static device: you turn it on and off, but when you are using one, you are still playing the guitar and not the pedal.

A wah (or an E-bow, or even a volume pedal) is something that you play in conjunction with the guitar. A distortion pedal is going to sound like itself no matter who is playing it (although some people can certainly get much more out of them). The sound of a wah is very much dependent on the actual player. I think it's that voodoo (*rimshot*) that makes them seem so special.

Exactly. Apples and oranges. Or you can use the Michael Schenker "Cocked Wah" type setting. I have 2 GCB-95s and a Jimi CryBaby pedal. I also have a Morley ProII, Ibanez WD7 Weeping Demon and a Snarling Dog. They each have their own flavor and feel.
Love the wah!
