I'm Looking for a Good Pedal Tuner .....

I have a cruddy little Boss tuner on my pedalboard right now and have been looking for a long time to upgrade it to something in the stompbox tuner vain ... Not a big fan of the Boss tu-2 , But I've looked at the Korg DT-10 and the PitchBlack but it looks flimsy !!! The Fender and Planet Waves are God Awful ugly !!! and I had a Strobostomp before for like 1/2 a day but it seems to jump around alot and I hear they are not sturdy !!! Opinions ??? HELP ...... Maybe I should look outside the pedal tuner group ??? Any good tuner suggestions ???

Korg DT-10

Peterson Strobostomp

My Strobostomp...the blue one...has lasted for years on my pedalboard.

It's awesome, and I'll never switch.

Re: I'm Looking for a Good Pedal Tuner .....

you pretty much eliminated all your options!!
digitech has a tuner in their new hardwire linup that looks nice but it looks like its along the same lines as the tu-2...and rocktron has the x-tuner but it looks like it would take up a lot of space...i personally prefer the tu-2 but ive seen a ton of favorable reviews of the pitchblack...

Re: I'm Looking for a Good Pedal Tuner .....

the pitchblacks not flimsy at all- I've had one for a couple of months now- upgraded from the tu-2! much quicker, more accurate and more visible!

100% recommended!

The best with TRUE bypass is the Strobostomp, and if you play acoustic, the Built in D.I. Box is a very good feature.

Re: I'm Looking for a Good Pedal Tuner .....

the Peterson Strobostomp...if it is like my Peterson flip...takes a bit to get working right...the suggestion make a huge amount of difference....first, I select my bridge PU and then turn it down to where if I am not picking there is no movement on the tuner...then I gently strum the string with my thumb....

all I know is..1. that tuner works better then any tuner I have had...

2. it is the only tuner that can tune better then my ear (that I know of)

3. it is very sensitive...

I would suggest giving it another try and being a little patincient...just my thoughts

I've tried several different models and always ended back with a TU-2. Bought a new one and have used it a bunch. I have never had a problem with the Boss tuner.... ymmv ... GB

Re: I'm Looking for a Good Pedal Tuner .....

I've had the DT-10 in my pedalboard for about 5 years now and its an amazing tuner, I thought of upgrading to the peterson but I don't know if it's worth the $. The pitchblack is cool + smaller.

its not so much tuning modes as display modes. Their kind of pointless- I found one I found most visible and stayed with that. It doesn't have tuning modes really- just a chromatic tuner!

Gunner, where are you getting a ST200?
I haven't checked it on retail store though, just wondering where and how much they are?

I'm GAS'in on it too over a Peterson SS2 after seeing the comparison video.

I've read in several locations rack mounted tuners are superior to their pedal based cohorts...

Re: I'm Looking for a Good Pedal Tuner .....

What's wrong with the TU-2? It's quick, it's accurate... I mean, it's just a tuner after all! Is true bypass/buffer really that big a deal?

Re: I'm Looking for a Good Pedal Tuner .....

I just picked up an Ibanez LU20 pedal tuner, claims true bypass, seems to be. Only had it for a little while but for 60 bucks I figured it would be worth a shot.

Re: I'm Looking for a Good Pedal Tuner .....

i like the way DT-10 works, simple 1 button, smooth LED display (like a needle) and moreover, cheap!

i gave my TU-2 away to a friend because it was way too quick for my eyes... and one time, i freaked out a little in between my set, not knowing what button i hit to have it on other mode...dumb me right? but that was the last time i see the TU-2 on my rig.

wouldn't mind to try the Strobostomp, heard good things about it.

I'll answer for him. His band ordered it online since they don't sell it in stores in Canada.

I don't think you can do better than the ST-200.
For what it is, an actual strobe tuner, it's also a great buy.
BUilt like a rock too.

Re: I'm Looking for a Good Pedal Tuner .....

I have the Pitchblack+ (plus), its pretty good (.1 cent), but it's really too damn big for my liking - got it as a free upgrade from the standard Pitchblack. I will tell you that when I use my clip-on-vibration-sensing tuner it doesn't tune it nearly as well as the P-plus - proves I have a tin ear I guess... If I was in the market for one, the TurboTuner looks real rugged, small and is even more accurate than 0.1 cent.

I've had the DT-10 for 5+ years and think it works great. The other guitar player in my band has the Pitchblack. He likes it and it doesn't look flimsy to me.
