Re: MXR Pedals

I forgot that I had a Dynacomp that I never really bonded with. That's a compressor thing though. Not an MXR thing...

Re: MXR Pedals

I have the Distortion + and the DynaComp but for some reason I don't really dig them all that much. I got them because it seems all the big names at the time have/had them. I would like to try out some of their other pedals. Especially, the Carbon Copy.

Re: MXR Pedals

I've got a script logo Dyna Comp and Distortion + along with a block-logo script-back Phase90. Love them. Whenever I plug in at the house I'll throw some of them in line. I don't use them on my gigging board because of the lack of 9v jacks but I'm working on finding one of their power supplies they made back in the day or some of those Zvex power plates....along with a script logo Blue Box...

I recently added a new 18v 10-band and I get no hiss from it at all. Does a very nice job for me.

Also have a Carbon Copy and Dynacomp on my pedal board. All of excellent quality and results.

When I got the Carbon Copy, I added it to the board along with my existing Boss DD-3. I thought I would alternate between the two at gigs to see which one I preferred and go with the result. Well, they are both still on the board. Found that each has a different sound and love having the choices and variety.

I love my MXR Super Comp. Everything is so tight and clear and procise. Dialing in the Noise Gate is a breeze and the tone shines through no problem. My Carbon Copy is on the way and can't wait to put that in the mix. Pulling the trigger on the M78 BadAss today. I have bought all of mine on ebay and scored some great deals on near new mint pedals. The Noise Gate was new, but the others are like new. I scored the Delay for 69 bucks. All original packing and not a scratch.

Yeah Joe, you're gonna really love that MXR Carbon Copy along side your MXR Custom Comp! And that is one great price if you got that Carbon Copy for $69

That Carbon Copy will NEVER leave my board.

Re: MXR Pedals

I just knew I was going to get outbid at the last second but didn't. I set custom alerts when a certain pedal gets posted and sometimes you have to be fast to score a good deal. Now I need to build a pedal board.......so I can add more pedals. Looks like I need to head over to the PAS thread and spill my guts......

I think for a budget dirt you can't beat those MXRs especially the Badass OD and Distortion.
MXR, Way Huge, and the Badass lines are really good stuff. They're not boutique, but their pedals are good sounding gear.

I've grown particularly fond of the Badass OD pedal. It works as well with my Telecaster, as my Les Paul. Put that inline with the Badass 78 Distortion, and you have that late 70s type tone. Not over the top grinding metal, but cool sounding "distorto-drive."

I got one, and it's a great pedal. I'm not big on "signature" stuff, but in my experience anything EVH is top quality stuff, pure and simple.

In the case of the EVH Flanger, I have to admit that I do seem to get a better "Unchained" sound out of it by tweaking the knobs on my own that by pressing on the preset switch, which is quite bizarre(?) but nevertheless it's a great pedal and a fixture on my pedalboard, along with the EVH Phase90 and Carbon Copy.

Highly recommended stuff!

Re: MXR Pedals

Agreed. Say what you want about signature stuff, but EVH stuff, top to bottom, tends to great quality in my experience.

Absolutely love my EVH Phase 90 and have wanted a Flanger for quite a while. Can't wait for it to come in. Got a great deal on a used one...

Update: Got the EVH Flanger today... WOW! This pedal is awesome! Looking forward to finding how many ways I can use it, not unlike the Phase 90.

Re: MXR Pedals

I have used quite a few of the mxr pedals. What I like about many of them is the versatility of some of the later ones. For what I play, (60s-70s hard rock/HM) they all do what I need.
1. Dyna Comp-perfect squash. Does one thing and does it well. Perfect for clean playing
2. Custom 78 Badass distortion-I call it the "Kiss" distortion, because it gives you that slightly overproduced late 70s hard rock sound, however with the crunch button down, you get that British tightness
3. Slash Octave Fuzz-The fuzz alone is excellent, but what's cool about this is that you can dial in just enough low octave to fatten up the low end while still being able to play full chords. You can also go full up on the octave and get the classic desired effect. It also has the octave up feature, to reproduce the "purple haze" tone.
4. EVH Flanger-Yeah, I know, signature, but again..this is easily the best flanger I have used, and for me I can dial in the setting I always use, and hit the unchained button, to get the other setting I usually use (it's close, to Unchained, but not exact)
5. EVH Phase 90-again, versatile. You have the option of the block logo phase or script logo(Slower sweep) I like to use this at the front of the chain at 7:00 to fatten up the leads (similar to what EVH did)
6. Carbon Copy-never leaves my pedal board. This is the perfect warm sounding delay to fatten up leads or to fill up your clean tone. If you purchase one Mxr product, this is the one to get.
7. Blue Box-with both dials dimed, it's an ok, slightly gated fuzz, with the octave set at 5:00 you get a good "Fool in the Rain" sound. The Slash Octave Fuzz negated this one for me.
8. Micro flanger-solid flange, not a whole lot of versatility, but takes up less space on your board. I consider this a decent backup.
9. Micro chorus-again, a solid chorus for the price. It gives a slight boost to the sound when turned on, which I don't like.

Bottom line, for the price and variety of flavours, mxr will treat you right!

I'll be getting one as well, using a MF/GC coupon...

Re: MXR Pedals

Yeah, seriously, I love it! The price is right too. The Fuzz sounds best almost dimed with the octave at about 10/11:00...just dirty!!! I had an Elite Tone Filmore that was similar and about 50 bucks more and I like this one a lot better! There are also adjustable trim pots inside the casing for tweaking the octave up sound...

Re: MXR Pedals

just ordered a CAE MC-401 booster (a micro amp in a different color?) who knows - reviews seemed to think the CAE is a bit cleaner of a boost. for some reason it annoys me that the 9v input is just in front of the instr in jack but i'm ocd. and i'm really curious what the wierd little hole is just over the 0db mark, slightly obscured by the knob. a 2cd led? did they buy a batch of cases with holes drilled in the wrong spot?

either way i've got high hopes for this booster to send my tubes into nice breakage.

they do have the most annoying fat-guy-wearing-shades-and-a-fedora-goatee-cool guy making product vids.

It kinda looks like a hole for the tab of the Boost pot. There is a tab on the pot to keep it from rotating.

this statement pretty much sums it up for me

over the years, i Imagine i've owned a variety of MXR pedals with various degrees of satisfaction

as brands, i tend to think of MXR and BOSS as workhorse lines of products: consistent quality, reasonably priced, typical range of effects offered

the only two MXR pedals i currently use are a hand wired reissue Script Logo Phase 90 and a Carbon Copy Analog Delay for my on the fly pedal board

otherwise, on my big pedal board i'm more inclined to an eclectic (and unfortunately more expensive) approach to pedals versus uniformity of brand or brand loyalty

to each their own...

I don't know if it's been said but MXR customer support is the BEST. I had a problem with a pedal years after I bought it... no receipt, no warranty and they still fixed it.

The pedals themselves? Not too expensive, reliable, sturdy and usually sound killer.

I love my MXR pedals... and now, I look to them first...

I cannot begin to tell you how much I love my 78 custom badass distortion... it's like everything from light bluesy distortion, or early AC/DC to 'kill em all'... but roll back the volume and it cleans up great! I've never had a pedal that cleans up like a tube amp so well
