Re: Overdrive pedal recommendation please..
Prepare for lists of everybody's favorite pedals. It would be worthwhile to list what you have now (guitar, amp, etc.) and where you want to go, what tones you want to cop, etc.

+1 on what standingwave said. I would love to recommend you some OD pedals but i need to know your guitar + amp, budget, and what tone you really want to achieve.

Re: Overdrive pedal recommendation please..
I'd really suggest checking out the Fairfield Circuitry Barbershop Overdrive.
It's simply THE best Overdrive I've played. It's easy to think I'm only saying that because my shop is a Fairfield Circuitry dealer, however I'm a professional player first and I've played dozens and dozens of ODs in my life. The Barbershop ended search, this is why I contacted Guillaume Fairfield myself to become an official dealer. It's the most responsive OD I've found and it's also really transparent when you want it to be. But, most of all, it's really an inspiring pedal. You can really use it for anything from a Clean Boost to a full blown OD/Distortion/Fuzz. The SAG knob is really useful and cool. It's a quality pedal, every unit is hand-made and Guillaume uses top quality components. You can check out those vids:

Re: Overdrive pedal recommendation please..
I'll +1 the Barbershop as I usually do, it really is an amazing piece of work. I haven't had time to test it yet, but it can be run at 12V too for more output and less distortion. Doing that transformed my Subdecay Liquid Sunshine (another fantastic OD) so I'm really interested to see how the Barbershop will react!

Re: Overdrive pedal recommendation please..
Way Huge pedals have the most satisfying stomp switches in the business and the build quality is great throughout.

Re: Overdrive pedal recommendation please..
I have two Wampler pedals -- great stuff. One is the incredible Black '65. Of course, everyone's eyes and ears are on the new '57 Tweed.

Re: Overdrive pedal recommendation please..
Definitely Wampler... The king of dirt boxes. What he does as far as nailing not only the tone but also the feel and response of the amp he's emulating is nothing short of amazing. They sound just like the real thing through a great clean tube amp.
I own, use, and endorse fully the Paisley Drive and Hot Wired. I use them both weekly onstage. Excellent pedals. The Paisley Drive is a great gritty overdrive with some fatness to it still. The Hot Wired is very versatile. The blue side is very much a clear gritty overdrive great for light rock or country. The red side is a fantastic high gain liquid tone that just sounds killer. Both pedals work superbly with both humbuckers and single coils and are SUPER versatile. There are several more Wamplers I will own someday (namely the Tweed '57, Black '65, Plexi Drive, Pinnacle, and perhaps the SLOstortion). You can't go wrong with Brian's pedals. But once you try one of his it's like eating spaghetti at an excellent Italian restaurant and going back to your other pedals will be like heating up microwave Spaghetti-O's.

Re: Overdrive pedal recommendation please..
Way Huge Green Rhino is very good at overdrive without over-coloring your base tone. Think opening lick to ACDC "have a drink on me."
Radial Tonebone Classic has a terrific range and works well with your setup. Fulltone OCD. My apologies, but this is my favorite fulltone. Wampler is great and some were made specifically to make a Fender sound Marshally. BB Preamp (the Orange pedal) is super warm, which works in favor of your setup. This is basically the Andy Timmons tone in a box. Rockbox Boiling Point is simply phenomenal. |

Re: Overdrive pedal recommendation please..
For those tones you listed,it sounds like you're on the blues pop/rock side of the fence.
Yes? No? I'm going to recommend the new Tweed '57 from Wampler. This is an extremely versatile pedal with all the gain you'll need to get you into the edgier territory you also frequent. |

Re: Overdrive pedal recommendation please..
Quick update on this, the Barbershop @ 12V didn't do much. It's good, but for me 9V works better.

Re: Overdrive pedal recommendation please..
Another superb choice and with the Prince of Tone coming out soon the availability and price should be lots better. And hopefully the King of Tone wait list will eventually run out to where he can do away with it. He just did away with the Bicomp list.

Re: Overdrive pedal recommendation please..
I can't believe you would want to do that. I'm on the list for another, as well as the plan to get a POT when it comes out.

Re: Overdrive pedal recommendation please..
You're more into redundancy than I am. I have another Blues Breaker-based pedal that I like a lot better. I'd like to put the KoT proceeds into something a bit less inoffensive, like a nice Bender.

Yeah, I just like the KoT and Mike's stuff in general. I consider him to be the best of the vintage style builders and Brian Wampler to be the best of the modern builders. I want a Tonebender too - the Analogman Sun Bender Mk1.5 is what I want. I plan on owning one soon. Those are killer pedals. The best Benders I've heard for sure. Can't go wrong with Analogman. Super guy and great pedals and am glad to know him as well as I do.
