Better Than the ISP Decimator...
Hey guys! I currently have an ISP Decimator, but that might change soon. I've tried placing it everywhere in my chain, first, last, after the dirt pedals, in the FX loop, but it really hasn't worked out. I'm either still getting unwanted feedback and hum, or after I hit a note and deaden it, it has this crappy fuzzy decaying sound, not a tight end like I want. I've been eyeing the Rocktron Guitar Silencer which has the gate and hush functions built in, but I have no idea what would help at this point. Any help?

Re: Better Than the ISP Decimator...
Running a Mesa Boogie Stiletto. The one tone that's giving me the most trouble is the amp set on a slight gain and boosted by a Green Rhino and an MXR EQ. By the time I get the ISP to a somewhat acceptable level, the output goes wayyyyyy down and my clean sounds suffer greatly from all this.

Re: Better Than the ISP Decimator...
I actually wouldn't say there's alot of hiss, the main problems I'm trying to live with is that stupid fuzz decay, and the fact that the guitar feeds back way too much, and too quickly. Even with my hand muting the strings. I am pretty close to the amp when I try that though, it gets better when I move away. But that damn fuzz...

in that case, i'm not sure i'd be using a noise reducer, i'd just change my settings a bit.
maybe someone with more experience with noise reducers will kick in, but i've used a lot of fuzz and it gets controllable after a while

Re: Better Than the ISP Decimator...
I'm not trying to get fuzz. If I play a chord or a note and deaden it, this weird fuzzy sound comes up, it's not just a quick, silent stop. If I turn the drives and gains and volumes down enough it stops, but then I'm not getting the tone I want at all.

Re: Better Than the ISP Decimator...
aah, i see. have you taken each of your pedals out of the chain one at a time, see if it's either of them causing the noise?

Re: Better Than the ISP Decimator...
Well yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the Rhino that is causing it. The Rhino by itself and the amp by itself doesn't produce any issues, it's when they're together. I want to keep them the way they are, however. I like my tone the way it is, so I just want to help prevent this annoying fuzz and feedback.

Re: Better Than the ISP Decimator...
Which decimator are you using? I have the G string running through the effects loop and it works perfect. I tried the regular one up front and it didnt work very well for me it cut the feed back but added noise .

Re: Better Than the ISP Decimator...
I use the Decimator with a Tubescreamer into an already dirty Marshall. I was getting LOTS of unwanted feedback at high volumes. I put the Decimator after the TS in front of the amp.
The Decimator did the job. When I stop playing, it stops it dead. If I hold a note it decays slowly. I can get controllable feedback with it too. I can't imagine the Decimator having problems with the set-up you described.
