Re: best hum canceler?

Now to answer your question, do you know the source of the hum? Is it from a pedal?...the amp?...the guitar? Each requires a different method to cancel hum.

its from the pedals. i know its not the guitars. best way i can describe it is it's like a cricket noise but with fuzzy sounds not static. Like white noise crickets lol

I was given for repair 2 pedal boards long time ago with hum problems, both had the same problem, it was a mismatched transformer. You have to use exactly the same voltage and mA required for each pedal, don't know if modern ones are more forgiven.

Hope this helps.

Re: best hum canceler?

yea ill look at the voltage and mA requirements. If im not mistaken i saw somewhere Way huge uses +9v and not standard 9v like all other pedals so it may be that pedal. Im working on getting a power brick so i can power all my pedals in a better manner... i dont think my 1spot does very well for the pedals. I heard the 1spot can damage pedals

9v bat. Won't make you pedals hum, even if the are low, but I never measured them looking for higher ratings so maybe a 9.8v could make something hum.... Not sure.

Re: best hum canceler?

Sounds like a modulation/time based pedal.

Try taking out a chorus/delay etc. one at a time to find out exactly which one it is.
Then add up how much power each pedal need(will usually be under 100mA per analogue pedal if no digital readout).
Find out how much your power supply/1 spot etc. can supply.
If your pedals add up to draw more than your supply can handle...take out a pedal/s or get a power brick(which you will want sooner than later).

If all else fails, get a good amp and jack in direct. Learn to use those controls on your guitar,it's a lot more fun...IMO

screw all other noise pedals, the EH Hum-debugger is the best. Well, I won't be harsh, the other pedals are nice too, but hey, for $121 (21 more than what you were wanting to spend) you get the best thing I've come across yet. Its not a noise gate, so it doesn't take away your sound, and it doesn't affect your tone AT ALL. Its so nice. I highly recommend it. Super easy to use too. It has an on switch. simple as that. No knobs. There is a low/high switch on it too, depending on what your rig is, but its friggin' awesome. proof in the pudding below>

I listened to comparision of Boss NS-2, EHX HumDebugger and ISP Decimator. The ISP was the best out of those three.

Re: best hum canceler?

so i spent time with my setup and the cricket white noise seemed to go away but then it came back. I unplugged each pedal individually and couldnt break it down to any one pedal that made the noise. Then i plugged my guitar straight into the amp and it makes the noise. No matter which guitar i plug in they all make the noise. I also notice the noise only persists in my tube amp and not my VT30

Any ideas?

Re: best hum canceler?

Since you've already narrowed it down to the amp... Its maybe best you get the amp checked out?

I'm sure these amps do make some noise with all the components reacting with each other and the tubes and all, but if its starting to get too noticeable something could be crapping out.

Re: best hum canceler?

Now you're getting somewhere. What amp? Do you have any spare tubes you can swap in? With tube amps, tubes generally are the first thing to suspect. If you have none, you should get some - they WILL go bad at some point, so keep a few around.

Re: best hum canceler?

I have a Carvin MTS 3200 50th Anniversary. One thing i noticed as well that i may mention is the it happens at the building i play my carvin in. At home I dont get that buzzing but i do at the other building... Could it be magnetic interference? Bad power coming from the wall?

Re: best hum canceler?

Are there fluorescent lights or dimmer switches in the building? Those can introduce noise. Power issues are beyond my knowledge, but I'd suppose that could be part of it.

Re: best hum canceler?

I just got an MXR Noise Clamp today, and I am really impressed. Gets rid of all the hum/buzz, and doesnt kill too much sustain or tone. Best $79.99 I've spent so far.

It may work for some, but I absolutely hated the Hum Debugger. It gives your tone a horrible slapback delay sound. Yeah it removes hum, but the tone cost is way too high.

Same here...although it seemed almost like a chorus to me. Weird, since a lot of users do not have that problem. I ended up with an ISP Decimator which I am very happy with.

Interesting. I don't have that problem at all with the hum debugger.
