Which preamp tube sound better to you and why?

Both great for me for different applications. I have some great 12AU7 sounds.. They only have 20% of teh gain of a 12AX7 so I will usually use a pedal to push them a little. they are great tubes, just not best for higher gain stuff on their owm.

I like the 12AX there. The 12AU sounds like it is being pushed too hard.

Yea, it seems like the 12AU7 has much more volume, could it be it was pushing the amp due to that? The controls on the Persuader remained untouched throughout the video.

You could try a 12AT7. It has a bit less gain, but sounds fantastic in a line of preamp tubes. I prefer a Russian made 12AT7 myself.

How does it sound on this video? Put in a different RCA 12AU7. It sounds like on old plexi marshall cranked to 10 and in the verge of the transformers blowing.
