Xotic Ep boost
I was at GC yesterday. I was playing my guitar that is stuck there on hold until Saturday: a PRS single cut with a full rosewood neck, into a deluxe reverb. I wanted to boost the signal a little so I had them grab me the Xotic Ep boost. I was floored. It sounded fantastic. I passed on the purchasing the pedal because I already have three boost (fulltone fulldrive, analog man beano and, a boost on a lovepedal amp eleven). Today I was using my boost on the fulltone and it was not even close. I am going to go and pick up the Xotic EP when I get the chance.

Re: Xotic Ep boost
How does the EP sound, compared to the Beano?

Re: Xotic Ep boost
I was asking myself the same question. It has been awhile since I plug in my beano but my memory would suggest that the beano will be a little richer in the highs. The Ep did remind me a bit of a germanium based treble boost but it was clearer. The highs sounded tighter but only a tab bit more pronounced. Granted to really know this I will have to play the same guitar and amp. I have been thinking about grabbing my beano and heading down to GC, however; the Ep sounded so good that I think will just buy it.
I did not even know they had them until today.

Re: Xotic Ep boost
The EP is a great pedal. I, as many others do, leave it on all the time just for the tone. It's based on the preamp section of the famous Echo plex(hence the EP). I like it at the end if my signal chain to bump the signal back up before it goes to the amp. It can also be run on 18v. If you like it at 9, you'll love it at 18.

Re: Xotic Ep boost
I have had one for a few years now. It really does the job well.

I've been eyeing that one for a while. It really does sound great.

Re: Xotic Ep boost
All of Xotic's stuff is great. I have the BB Preamp too. That, the AC Booster, RC Booster, all great OD pedals with varying levels if gain(listed high to low). And, they stack unbelievably well with each other.

Re: Xotic Ep boost
Love Xotic's stuff. Wish they'd open up their dealers to GC and Musician's Friend. I have the BB (orange model) Preamp and EP Booster. I use the EP to match the output of my low output single coil type pickups to my higher output humbuckers so I don't have to change settings between guitar changes. I use the BB for a real fat Claptonesque lead tone. I have the RC and AC Boosters on my list to get next. Want to use the RC for a clean boost and AC for a really nice midrangey brighter tone.

Re: Xotic Ep boost
The EP Boost is a hi-fi, bright and cleanish/transparent sounding boost that seems to add more volume than gain. Great for adding chime to your rhythm chords.
The Beano Boost is more of a lead boost that is treblish and gritty and imparts its own flavor. Very lo-fi and old school break-up sounding. Same character remains when switched to bass or mids boost. IMO they do not serve the same purpose, although the EP can of course be used as a lead boost as well. I hope that helps... |

Re: Xotic Ep boost
EP + 2203 = Tonal Nirvana
There's just something about this pedal that makes any good tube amp, better. Mess around with those DIP switches inside,Bede. They do make a difference. But the factory setting is good enough,as is. This is just one of those special pedals that will never leave your board or possession. Congrats and great choice ![]() * amp on edge of overdrive - EP @ 3 o'clock. TRY IT! |

Re: Xotic Ep boost
I haven't tried messing with the dip switches yet. I'll have to do that. I run it at 18 v though. That's worth a try if you haven't already.
