Re: Line6 POD HD300
Sounds like a good complement, yes. Guitar Rig can be lots of fun too and is a godsend when recording.
Get good headphones if you don't have it already, but more importantly - some kind of speaker setup. Modelers through headphones just sound off, too crisp and clear and not physical enough.

The quality is way more than "OK" for those purposes. As kboman says, don't skimp on speakers. I use a small P/A amp or studio monitors.

As an HD500 owner, I can say that any of the HD-series modelers will more than satisfy your current and potential amp needs. The floor models are more practical if you plan to gig with them, otherwise the bean is perfect for desktop/bedroom use.

Re: Line6 POD HD300
I should add that I used a Boss GT-8 for years both on stage, at rehearsal and for some recording. Sound guys loved it! The sound you get is very consistent, but be very very - very - restrictive if you set the reverb using headphones or you will sound ridiculous
![]() Ultimately I grew tired of it because while it usually sounds good, it rarely sounds great. Instead I got A, a soundcard and Guitar Rig (v4) which sounds and feels better and is more flexible - except that it's on the computer - and B, a Vox AC15 and a continuously growing collection of pedals. Amp + pedals sounds fantastic, but is not always the best option. I use it for band practice where I can let it stretch its legs and sometimes play it at home, but not for very long due to the volume. All home recording is done with my pedal board into a minimal Guitar Rig patch. It's good to have all these options, even though you quickly become swamped in Stuff!
