Analog Delay; MXR Carbon Copy or Way Huge Aqua Puss
I've decided to add an analog delay to my pedal board. The Music Store here has both the MXR M169 Carbon Copy and the Way Huge Aqua Puss in stock.
Any recommendations on either pedal?

I have played both but am not familiar enough to be able to recommend one over the other... try both with your amp and guitar to find the one that sounds best given those parameters... also I really dig my EH deluxe memoryman, people tend to love or hate those... I love mine

I'd check out EHX as an alternative too. The Memory Boy Deluxe is really being insistent on my attention... Tap tempo, subdivisions, actually useful modulation, effects loop - yeah, I can dig that.

The Aqua Puss MK 2 has 300ms and CC has 600ms. The CC also has modulation aka Chorus. The Aqua Puss Doesn't have modulation. The Aqua Puss is big in size the CC is slim in size.
So that's what it comes down too.

I just got the CC and love it. That said I'm a big Way Huge fan and love that line too. The Aqua Puss is very warm and perfect for slapback. I would have got that one but didn't have the space. The CC is a little more versatile and can do much longer delays. I use mine for slapback though.

Re: Analog Delay; MXR Carbon Copy or Way Huge Aqua Puss
I have no experience with the Aqua Puss, but I just added a CC to my pedals. I also have a Boss CE-5 Chorus and a Boss DD-3 Delay. I have found that the modulation in the CC is just enough to fill in where I had been using the CE-5. Now I find myself using the CC much more in place of both the CE-5 and DD-3.
I currently still have them all on the same board just so I can A/B them for taste purposes. My recommendation would be to get them both and A/B them for a while. |

Re: Analog Delay; MXR Carbon Copy or Way Huge Aqua Puss
The Aqua Puss is probably the best rockabilly/country slapback sound out there short of a tape machine or a ridiculously expensive Strymon. However, this is really the only thing it excels at and in fact is quite noisy/lo-fi at anything longer than about 200ms.
If you want your delay to do anything other than what I mentioned above, the Carbon Copy will rule the roost any day of the week! It does OK at the sound mentioned above, but the beauty of the CC is how well the repeats sit in the mix and create musical space just about anywhere you put it. The two side by side would be ideal for me but I would recommend the CC first. |

Thanks to all who posted!
I'm leaning towards the Carbon Copy as it seems like it will provide more versatility. I will A/B them tomorrow and let you know which one comes home with me.

Re: Analog Delay; MXR Carbon Copy or Way Huge Aqua Puss
I was looking at the Carbon Copy & The Echo Baby. Echo baby sounded so much better than CC that I paid the Ransom. But that's just the kind of tone Junkie I am.
