Re: ANALOG vs DIGITAL which delay do you play ?

Analog Maxon AD-09 here. Digital anything equalizes my tone so that something comes up missing. I've tried again and again with different digital delays and digital effects in general. I always end up hitting my rig after some time of not playing and thinking that my tone sounds flattened out. I used to track back through all my cables and everything but now I just pull the digital pedal out of the chain and there's the tone suck. In a gig the difference can't be detected I'm sure but I just hobby-noodle around in a small room with three tube amps pointing at me from various corners. I can hear the difference there. It's annoying, really. I got the BOSS Loop Station pedal and it's a blast but it is always on when it is plugged in and sure enough I tracked back to it being a tone leveler.

I have the BOSS pedal and a Dan-Echo pedal riding on a little dual true-bypass pedal I made for their occasion.

Re: ANALOG vs DIGITAL which delay do you play ?

For me it really depends on the application. I like crisp digital delays for Pink Floyd-ish "Run Like Hell" moments, analog delays for solos, and tape delays for most everything else.

Re: ANALOG vs DIGITAL which delay do you play ?

Old EP-2....just so sweet.

I've tried EVERYTHING to match it, the old tan Chandler unit sounds very good
and the new #1 Echo that EH makes is very close sounding and it's $90! I have one on my board, even though I use the ep, and just set it for a couple of particular big delay's in particular song parts.

Does the EP2 add gain to your signal ? I heard the tube Echoplex adds more Ummff to your sound .. Ever compare an EP2 to an EP3 or 4 that's not tube ?

Re: ANALOG vs DIGITAL which delay do you play ?

I very rarely use delay anymore.
When I do I use my Maxon AD-80 in the loop for a little slap.
Analog is just warmer and more natural sounding to my ears.

Re: ANALOG vs DIGITAL which delay do you play ?

I use a Echoplex EP-3 and a Boss DD-6. Echoplex requires a lot of maintanence, but when its at its best, its hard to beat. the DD-3 is great for a light ambient delay

Re: ANALOG vs DIGITAL which delay do you play ?

I like both. For playing live, I use both an Ibanez AD9 and a Boss DD6. In the studio, I'll record dry and then loop in whatever pedal I want at mixdown.

For pedals, I use the Boss digital delays. All my recording gear, rack mount stuff, etc. is digital as well.

Digital for me. No hassles, no fussing, its just there when I need it.

Echo Park is hands down my favorite delay stompbox.

I use a Electro Harmonix Memory Man Analog Delay. Analog is supposed to sound warmer.

Re: ANALOG vs DIGITAL which delay do you play ?

Right now I get all my delays from the PODXT Live. I don't gig currently so I like the muti effects board for recording. I am starting to build a pedal board and the delay is one that is on my list to get this winter. I am still torn between analog and digital so I am glad to see this poll. The POD modeling gives me a little variety to see some of the differences between them but I know it's not exact to the actual stand alone pedal.

I played a POD once or twice and they really seem to be too sterile ! Dont get me wrong the delays were lush but too pristine !! I like the breakup of analog ! On my DLS EchoTap you can adjust the delay from clean digital like very perfect repeats all the way to an EchoPlex like dealy were the repeats degrade as they fade away !! But my Boss DM2 is my slapback monster !! It does those crazy spaceship oscillations too !!!!!

Re: ANALOG vs DIGITAL which delay do you play ?

Suposed to be analog but i read somewhere that just before the signal leaves the output something digital is happening, so what to vote
Anyway, it`s a simple delay, tonewise similar to Ibanez AD-9 i used to own (not a RI), but with extra toneknob feature (nice) and a longer decaytime 600ms vs. 300ms. Unfortunately no stereo output. It self-oscillates pretty well but not as crazy as the AD-9. Pretty good quality for a very reasonable price.
