New Dunlop Pedals for 2012!

Just got word on another forum that Dunlop sent an email out to all of it's dealers about some new pedals. Here is what is coming out and then my take on it!

Way Huge Red Llama Reissue - YES!!! The planets have aligned and Dunlop has answered my prayers. I've wanted a proper Red Llama WH design for a long time now (I have a clone) and I've begged Dunlop via email for this a couple of times. Definitely buying this one!!!!

MXR Custom Badass Modified Overdrive - Very cool! It sounds like a modified Screamer of some sort with some mods to the foundational circuit. I'll likely pick this puppy up!!! Oh hell yeah!

Joe Bonamassa Signature Crybaby Wah - Nice! My JB-obsessed blues playing friend will be in heaven about this! He has the JB Fuzzface and is been waiting for this wah as long as I've been waiting for a Red Llama reissue. Both of our prayers have been answered.

Unfortunately there is no pics or info on the Dunlop site short of a small demo of the Custom Badass OD. That said, the discussion about these pedals is on TGP forums where a dealer posted about the upcoming products.

Being a Dunlop/Way Huge/MXR fan, this is very cool! Put me down for a Llama and a Badass! Just what I needed - more pedals to buy. UGH! Thanks Dunlop!

There is another thread on the new Badass pedal but here is a demo of the Badass OD.

MXR is doing such a fine job of going after our money!

Me too dude - me too! I've been waiting for this for a long time! IMO this pedal is probably the best Tweed sounding pedal out there (and I own other Tweed-y pedals).

My guess is the price will be in the $150 range. The price for the MXR Badass will be $100. I did some Google detective work. So far they have only released prices on the MXR and the Wah. The Wah is going to be $170. I'm surprised they haven't put prices out for the WHRL yet.

What's the Red Llama like - another TS variant? I know nothing of it, but I'm quite willing to have another PAS attack if it's something I'd like...

Oh no - it's a mild fuzz. Based on the old Craig Anderton Tube Sound Fuzz - it is basically emulating a cranked Fender Tweed Deluxe or something. Real raunchy and thick. But not as farty or fuzzy as a real fuzz. Think of a Neil Young "Cinnamon Girl" type of tone.

You got off the wrong exit to get to the ballpark.... (you're no where close)

It's a tweedy, fuzzy, drive-like box that quite frankly, sounds amazing!

It will indeed be copper, same finish as the JB Fuzzface. JB himself has confirmed that. It will be $170.

unless, against all reason, the JB comes out as a high, tight funk wah of course.

My buddy who is a big JB fan is excited about this. His rig is pretty much identical to Bonamassa's and he loves the JB Fuzzface so he's excited about the Wah. He has a 535Q, too, that he is using now. I'd go for this wah but I kind of have my heart set on a Joe Walsh signature RMC wah. It's a bit pricier but worth it I think.

Ok - updates on the pedals.

The JB Wah will retail for $170. The Red Llama reissue will be $120. The Badass Overdrive will be $100. They will all be available next month!

I like both pedals but honestly I do have a lot of love for the Red Llama. I have a clone of it and will definitely be getting this reissue pedal. It just seems a bit thicker/fuller sounding. But I still like the Lius. There are a lot of great Tweed-in-a-box pedals out there. The Catalinbread Formula No 5 is another one I want to try. But the Llama just seems to have that thick sound. The Lius is a bit brighter.

I will do that when I get my RL reissue. Hopefully by next month or so and I'll do a demo. The pedal comes out next month.

LOL! I'll plead that since GG1988 made the announcement, the odds were pretty fair that it was going to be TS-related!

RL is $120 retail? That'd be $90 or $100 street, that's completely doable!

I'm a big Joe fan, but doesn't it bother anyone else when an artist comes out with a "signature" product that they don't actually use?
I'm sure he will start using his Crybaby (like his fuzz) but he's been using a Vox V846 wah for many years. If you are after his wah tone, get the Vox.

Actually he has been using his prototype Crybaby for almost a year now. They worked on several prototypes because Joe wanted a wide sweep on the wah that his Vox wasn't giving him and wanted something new. He used this on the latest album too and will be his "new" wah tone. He used it on the song "You Better Watch Yourself" where he needed a wide sweep so Jeorge Tripps from Dunlop brought him some handmade prototypes to use on the album and he used it on that song. You can see the copper top prototype in this video:

In this video he explains the wah tone he was going for and what he needed:

Has anybody seen the Dunlop ad from winter edition of Guitar Aficionado magazine? The ad on page 59 features a "Trussart Paisley Cry Baby" Wah that will be available in 2012. The ad also states it will be a limited offering.

Anyone know anything more about this?

Very cool! I'd love to see a pic of that! I'll do some research!

I gotta say, Dunlop is one of my favorite gear companies out there - consistently making great stuff. I've never had a Dunlop product go bad on me and I hear their CS is great.

Thanks! That looks very sharp indeed!

Because Dunlop has these three pedals coming out next month, does that mean we won't see any more at NAMM or are they going to surprise us this year and give us even more at NAMM? It would be cool if it was the latter, I must say! I know they are working on an Eric Johnson signature Fuzzface and this wah here, so I have a feeling it will be a lot of products coming soon from Dunlop. That's not a good thing for me financially.

Re: New Dunlop Pedals for 2012!

I now feel that MXR are the market leaders in the pedal world these days. There are producing some fantastic pedals at great prices that suit beginner to professional. I will be buying lots from them in the new year if money allows. I'm thinking of an entire rig overhaul and MXR and a tele (sacrilege) will be the staple of the rig.

Most definitely! It's the best all around Tweed-on-10 pedal. There are other pedals that emulate Tweed Fender amps, but the Llama nails the "5E3 Deluxe on 10" tone better than any of them. The Lovepedal Les Lius I have is great, but it is more of the sound of the Deluxe with breakup and not cranked into submission. The only other cranked-to-10 pedal I can think of is the Catalinbread Formula No 5 but it's a bit too bright IMO.

I just saw a general picture of the Llama reissue over on TGP and it looks identical to the original except a silver stomp switch (instead of the black on the old WH pedals) and MKII printed below "Red Llama". Otherwise it's identical. Nice and RED! My favorite color too!

Dunlop/MXR/Way Huge is my favorite mass produced pedal company by far. Consistent high quality, boutique type tone, and very durable. I love my MXR 78 Distortion and Way Huge Green Rhino reissue. I love Dunlop as a company - I think they are awesome. I'm still a handmade boutique pedal geek but I love Dunlop pedals!
