YEA makes a big difference in the power doesnt it!!
more pedals should use higher power like that!

What's the deal, you're supplying the pedal with a higher voltage than what it's "expecting"?

What's the voltage supposed to be?

That's why I like DIY pedals now... if you use capacitors higher than 18v (most are 50,63,100, etc), it shouldn't pose a problem.

A more advanced DIYer (or electronics guru) would have to confirm though.

the OCD is designed to be run 9V up to 18V depending on what you like tone wise. the nine volt is a little more trebly and not as bassy, the 18v adds more of a midrange thickness to it....at least thats what it sounds like to me!

Re: coldsteal...got the 18v power supply for the OCD

i find my V.2 runs best at 15. its has a bad pop when you step on it above 15

i spoke with Mike and he says its not a warrenty issue. so i just use it at 15 volts

a one spot aint gonna work its designed for nine volt, i bought a Jim Dunlop 18V adaptor for 25.00 for just the OCD. thats probably gonna be the cheapest way to do it, the voodoo lab power supply is gonna allow you to power your 9V and 18V pedals but its not el cheapo!

Re: coldsteal...got the 18v power supply for the OCD

Hey. ANYTIME you need a wall wart ( or floor wart ) check out mouser.com or jameco.com for just exactly what you need. I found a 24V 2A power supply for a tube preamp I was building. Another thing is to save your old wall warts from cordless phones, caller IDs, and whatever. My -center pedals all run off one wall wart with lotsa splices in the output wire, and my +center pedals run on another. Yes, it took a couple hours to make it all work out, but all I had to pay for was the solder and the heatshrink

Most analog pedals are just using plain old resistors to create voltage dividers for op-amps or transistors, so pwoznic is correct, if your caps can handle it, you'll be fine. The lowest cap i've ever seen outside of a pc power supply is 16V, so you can try a 12V power supply without having too much to worry about, but beware: higher voltage means higher current. In tubes, a higher plate voltage on the preamp tubes gives you more gain per stage, but it's a CLEAN gain FYI

Re: coldsteal...got the 18v power supply for the OCD

just go to any thrift store and they sell them for $1.00 they usually have dozens to choose from. I have 9's 12,s 15's and 18''s. I bought them all in one day.
just check the DC voltage output and polarity. its written out on the wart. you may have to cut and resplice the end plug to reverse it.

the OCD s/b outside positive

Re: coldsteal...got the 18v power supply for the OCD

a good feature on the OCD is that you cant hurt it if you plug the wrong polarity into it....it'll just hum or wont work at all but it wont fry it!
