Fujigen Les Pauls.

I thought I'd post a pic here of a (different) forum buddies Fujigen Les Paul I got to play a while back. They dont seem to get many mentions which is a shame, they're very nice guitars.
Many of you will be aware of the Fujigen made Orvilles and OBGs, which are great guitars, the Fujigen branded Les Pauls seem to be a bit scarce though, this is the only one I've seen & played. They're another good option for those on a MIJ Les Paul quest.

I wouldn't rate it as highly as a Bacchus or high end Tokai for example, maybe in the same camp as an Edwards. Anyone have any opinions on them?

Seen a couple on Ebay they had funky headstocks though, couldn't get into the look of it.

Re: Fujigen Les Pauls.

I believe Fujigen is the company that built most of the Fender Japan, Greco's and Tokai's until the Late '80s

Fujigen have never made Tokai's.
Tokai have their own guitar factory.

Fujigen made Fender Japan guitars from 1982-1997.
Fujigen made most of the Greco Gibson clones in the 70s 80s and early 90s.
Fujigen made a lot of Ibanez guitars in the 70s and 80s,
Fujigen made a lot of Orvilles in the 90s.
Fujigen made a lot of Epiphone Japan in the 90s and 2000s.

Fujigen have their own guitar brands now.

Fujigen make Steve Vai's and Joe Satriani's main guitars.

I've got a couple of Fujigen Epiphone Elitists - great guitars! I've always wondered what their name brand stuff was like. Nitro finish on that one, by chance?

Wow, I didn't even know that they had their own brand.
Looks nice, like everything else I've seen coming out of that factory.

I cant remember diceman, I'll give him a shout and ask but I'm nearly sure he said it was poly. The same lad has a fujigen strat too, again it's another nice guitar.
@UITA- I know what you mean about the funky headstocks, but I now own only two guitars, a Bacchus & a Hamer. Both have weird headstocks. I've trained my eye to concentrate on the body only!

Re: Fujigen Les Pauls.

here a top of the line fuji-gen product, this was a special order to celebrate 35 years of the shimamura shop, who were the distributors for the ''History'' line of fuji-gen guitars...

35 pieces were made, all timeless timber, the pick of the woodstock..

Hebbamundo likes this.

Re: Fujigen Les Pauls.

Are those 'timeless timber' series very expensive villager?
I seldom like guitars with that spalted finish, I'd make an exception for that one though.
I have to admit I'd stick black p'up rings and speed knobs on it though. Sacrilege eh?!

there are quite a few made with timeless timber, but very few with that kind of top, and those are expensive..

Re: Fujigen Les Pauls.

Just got a CoolZ (Shimamura) ZLS-2 which is _OK_. The guitar is nicely made, but they didn't pay too much attention to the pickguard. It doesn't fit 100% and it seems to have damaged the top where the screw for the bracket is. It actually looks terrible without the pickguard. Nice woods and finish though.

Hey, is that the one that was on ebay lately and always popped up when I was looking for Tokais?

Most likely, it had a couple of brand names in the title, "Coolz LS-2 by Fugijen, makers of Greco and Orville etc". Gotta take some pics tomorrow.

Coolz LS-2 by Fugijen, makers of Greco and Orville etc bei eBay.de: Electric (endet 15.04.09 20:24:22 MESZ)
Yeah, that's the one. I do combined searches for Tokai and Orvilles lately, so that's why it always showed up. I always look at ebay.uk too. It's just so hard to find MIJ guitars in Germany. Watched a '08 Tokai LS-150 go for 800€ two days ago at ebay.de, though. I didn't know if I could fund it, so I had to pass on bidding. Turns out I sold my '03 Epi LP Classic yesterday and I could have bought it.

That gutiar looks really nice! Congrats!

I also have a couple of searches for Tokai, Greco, Orville, Bacchus & co. This one showed on eBay Germany since the seller shipped worldwide and that's what I usually set my searches to so I get results from all over the world.

800EUR for a LS-150, oh boy You can get a 135 for around 1060 from a UK seller.

Come to think of it, I may have another FujiGen even though its origins are somewhat unclear.

Guitars::Signature

I was curious about the CFS system so I couldn't resist. Very nice guitar, I only wished they would have put a little more attention on the pickguard since it's otherwise very well made (like that Signature up there). It seems to compete with Edwards in Japan, pricewise.

cool-Z were the budget range from Shimamure, history was the top end which used Timeless Timber, both have CFS, the cool-Z are very good for the money..

Yeah, it really pained me to see that Tokai go for that price, not beeing able to place a bid. Here's a link to the auction. Tokai Love Rock LS 150 VF Customshop-Like HighEnd Model bei eBay.de: E-Gitarren (endet 23.04.09 18:00:00 MESZ)

That signature looks really sweet. Beautifully grained plain top. Don't like the headstock shape that much, though.

People passed on them due to the lack of a recognizable brand name (there's only a symbol on the headstock). They were priced to compete with Epiphone and sold in the UK.

That's a nice Tokai with a "proper" neck tennon. I missed it myself, damn. Was a little out of my budget anyway this month so I would have gotten into trouble.

Still looking for a nice plaintop Bacchus, but those are insanely expensive so Tokai might be my only option.

I had the History ZLS-90 for awhile, nice guitar. It was basically the same guitar as the Coolz ZLS-2, just had CTS pots and Vitamin T, oil capacitors. It was mid range priced, no timeless timber.

Yeah, those are veeeeeery similar, down to the headstock. I'm wondering if they simply took the mid-range History models and are now selling them under the CoolZ brand.

Thats a cool guitar Arkay. Do you like the pickups?
The guitar pictured in my initial post sounded great IMO, the pickups were more vintage voiced than those on my Bacchus and I liked them. (I like the Bacchus pickups too.)

Yup, they appear to be PAF clones, not very high output. Bacchus uses pickups from different brands and their own. I have a set of Bacchus pickups in my P90 Duke, those are great.

Same model with different finishes...

Mine differs a lot from the stock pic.
