Just bought a Greco EG68-50!

I just bought this off Chingo. Should be here in a couple of days, hopefully not Korean and hopefully not in pieces! Here are some pics:

Ah the RLG-50 of the Greco realm
I think nothing beats these plain tops...you can never go wrong with them

What neck profiles are they Chris? As always Chingo stated it is a 'Slim '60s'. Got to admit that guy is consistent no matter what guitar he sells!!!

I watch a good majority of the guitars on Yahoo he buys too...I see what he pays for them and what he sells them for
He is doing "well"
The Greco 60 I had was a 58 neck from what I remember...very beefy D shape.
I do not have the pics up on my Flickr, will have to later today

Thomas, definately MIJ. I can't see that well! is it 89? 90? Dave, I've had a few flametops, from 90' a couple were slim and one was really fat. The Greco SG, I had from 90' was also really fat.

Re: Just bought a Greco EG68-50!

Your's is a FujiGen ........

I owned two very similar from 1989, which I believe that one is a 1989

I had # 9 0945, which is <100 serial # digits from yours, and I had another that was within 20 serial # digits to #9 0945.

they were both in the upper 8 lb. range & both had neck profiles that were a bit smaller than I prefer.

9 0945 was a great playing & great sounding Les Paul.

Yours should be comparable; Congrats

Thanks guys! This will be my first Greco LP so it's good to hear but what year is it and what does the 68-50 numbers mean, did it cost 50 000 yen new? Newbie questions again!

Thanks, I had a hunch it was that profile. Must've been a while since you got yours and I asked you back then perhaps...

Re: Just bought a Greco EG68-50!

Thomas, here's a comparison for you, and a blast from my Greco past ............
both neck profiles were just too small for me to keep tho'; eventually sold them both ...........

9 0945 - this one was a bit beat, oxidized hardware, a lite relic .......
played like a dream for chords but for leads the neck was too small ........

9 0965 - MINT as MINT can be aka 'crazy clean' - didn't like it worth a crap ..........
EDIT: I forgot to add, this one came with documentation showing it as an EG-600

Hi Thomas, that is a nice Greco, I think you will be very happy.
I think it should be an EG59-50 rather than EG68-50 as the 68 was used to refer to custom models based on the 68 Gibson. Regardless of what you call it, they are nice guitars.

Re: Just bought a Greco EG68-50!

Well they are based on the 1959 neck shape so generally yeah or so they hoped I suppose.
The 59-60 I had was more of a Super Real sized neck...quite beefy so perhaps they just tossed what was lying around onto the guitars?
I know that they did have a surplus of SR necks that they put onto transitional models but I thought those were the SR line still?

from my experience, the Greco MC EGs came with increasingly smaller neck profiles, from the 1982 to the 1989 range, generally ............

all of my 1989 model Greco MC guitars, no matter if EG, Spl, or SG, had the smallest neck profiles of any MC year models from my experience.

that is not however to say that there may be variations .........

YMMV .........

Thanks for that information VintageJIM, I had the impression that they were all similar during the 82-89 Mint Collection period.

Hi Udo, it will be interesting to see what the neck is like on this! My Burny FV-85 MS is a baseball bat and the Grass Roots is a ruler. The RLG-90 is very comfortable!

No doubt. He seems to know the sweet spot where most overseas bidders will drop out. Then he marks them up and moves them on Ebay while the bidders pick up the shipping tab. He also seems to really like the medium range stuff, not the cheaper models but nothing super primo either.

Nice score though Thomas. Looks like a keeper.

Re: Just bought a Greco EG68-50!

The Greco EG59-50 has arrived! Very well packed and setup good enough to allow me and try it through a Marshall JCM 800. I think the neck is a bit smaller than the RLG-90 but I really like it! A great playing, sounding guitar and it will be even better after a real setup! I have to go to bed now and thank God for these MIJs!
