Re: Orville by Gibson 59 reissue

My OBG 59 reissue is my favorite guitar. This one has the case as well... I'm very jealous. Mine was $100 cheaper though including shipping from Japan.

Re: Orville by Gibson 59 reissue

i got one of these few years ago ex japan, with oe case, papers and unfitted guard. mint guitar, paid a bit more. sold another a few weeks back for about that price. they arent making anymore and they are very very good- and generally a safe buy from o/s, unlike gibson.

Re: Orville by Gibson 59 reissue

I would ask to see pix of the back, and here's why...

That's a WHOLE lotta cash to lay out for a multi-piece body git. Not saying they are all like mine was, but I was none too happy when mine showed up and I flipped her over and saw this.

Re: Orville by Gibson 59 reissue

3pup- I still think that is weird. It must have escaped. Ive looked at a lot of these and Ive never seen one like that. But clearly they exist- so as always due diligence....

From what I've read, one piece backs are extremely rare on Orvilles. Yes, ObyG's, too.

That ebay item is beautamus, but I'd be surprised if it sells at that price. But you don't see all that extra stuff very often, if ever.

Yes, many ObGs are multi piece backs. But not the reissues.

I think he will get the money, esp given the candy. As said, I sold mine a couple of weeks ago- no candy- for similar.

Mmh! The truss rod cover does not look original, looks a bit out of place on that guitar?

Many 59 LPS's are multi-piece backs.

But whats more prevalent? I'd like to know the answer.

However, we should get innadaze to weigh in on this question.

If I'm wrong, so be it. I've been wrong before. I'm a big fan of the truth. Afterall, we demolished the myth of Korean made Orvilles here on this forum!

MOJO HOBO

It looks like it could be either the original or a new one that has not had the static vinyl sticker peeled off of it.

Most ObGs don't have a 1 piece back (mine is 2 piece but fairly light)

According to your sig, your ObG is one of the Reissues, a 59, and it has two piece back. Correct?

Is your ObG a Fuji or a Terada?

Re: Orville by Gibson 59 reissue

very very few ObG's have a 1 piece back ..I have seen 3 which were 1 piece from hundreds I have owned, it has nothing to do with being a reissue or not, the 1 piece backs occasionally come up on the solid flame or quilttopped highest models, and very very rarely on any other model.

Re: Orville by Gibson 59 reissue

I'm so glad NoStatic pulled in that photo of his ex-59 RI.
The buttery finish on the one-piece back is gorgeous.

I think $1700 is a bit high, maybe $1500.

Re: Orville by Gibson 59 reissue

For the record, the seller emailed me a shot of the back, and this one has a very nicely matched body... 2-pc center seam if I had to guess from the one picture, but I would not complain about the look at all. $1700 is very high though for me....

Re: Orville by Gibson 59 reissue

I have had regular Orvilles with 1,2, or 3 pc backs, the one I have now is 2 pc I think, or maybe 1 pc, have to look at it again.

The highest I've seen for an OBG 59 RI is $2475.00 USD, but it was NOS with all paperwork.

Fuji - It's a 2 piece back but I don't mind as it's not too heavy and resonates nicely even while unplugged.
