I'm back, and I have pics of my finished Warmoth LP
Hey so I'm back finally. I finished my Warmoth Les Paul a while ago, so I thought I'd drop in with pics since I said I would way back in March when I got these parts.
The Lowdown- Chambered Warmoth black korina/wild maple LP w/ ivoroid binding and blue burst finish, birdseye maple/rosewood neck w/ ivoroid binding, earvana nut and tall jumbo frets. It's got 4 push/pulls and the full Jimmy Page wiring configuration, Seymour Duncan Jazz in the neck and Seymour Duncan Alternative 8 in the bridge. Oh yeah, and Gotoh locking mini tuners. This baby rocks!!! It plays like a dream and sounds even better. The contoured heel really makes it easier to get to those high frets too. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Nice LP!! Can you describe the Alt 8's tone? How does it compare to other pickups, like say the Distortion or the Custom?

Sweet! Wow, from the front you can't even tell it's a bolt neck. I'm not familiar with the back story. Is that a std LP scale length or the longer 25.5" scale?

Re: I'm back, and I have pics of my finished Warmoth LP
It's a Gibson scale. I got the Warmoth conversion neck.
The Alternative 8 is nice. It's got some balls when you distort it, but it's a very clear, articulate pickup. It's kinda like the JB, but it doesn't have any muddy qualities at all, and it's slightly hotter. I can't really compare it to the Distortion by experience because I've never played one of those, but keep in mind that the Distortion is a ceramic magnet and the Alternative 8 is an alnico, so that's a big difference. Also, if you look at the SD tone chart on their site, the Alt 8 has more lows. I almost went with a Custom 5 in there, but then I decided I wanted a warmer toned pup.

If you stare at it long enough you can get lost in it. It's like a blue sea. Just beautiful.

Re: I'm back, and I have pics of my finished Warmoth LP
Up until I switched the pups for the Zebras, it was around $1400. The new pups were $140, so $1540 plus a case equals $1640 for the whole package. That's with almost every bell and whistle that Warmoth does, plus the 4 push/pulls, SD pups, Earvana nut, locking tuners, etc... I think you would really have to order a pimped out guitar from W to get more expensive than that.
The Strat I'm working on now is going to end up around a grand when I'm done, but it's also going to be a gorgeous guitar. The reason it will be so much cheaper is that the neck will not have binding, inlay, etc..., and the body was already much cheaper and they're having a sale right now. So far I just have the body, I'm waiting until after Christmas to order the neck. Here's a pic of that: ![]() The Les Paul was basically me ordering my dream guitar without skimping on anything, and it really is an amazing instrument. The Strat is a little different because I just liked the body (got it out of the Showcase) and wanted to build a Strat. Later on I plan on building a Jaguar, which I believe I could do for around $700 since I want to do my own finish on that project. If I were buying the parts now with the sale going on, I could probably get the whole thing for $600. Anyways, my point is that this project was around $1640, but that's on the higher end of the Warmoth scale, and you certainly could go cheaper if you wanted to.

Re: I'm back, and I have pics of my finished Warmoth LP
Congratulations on a job well done and you have great taste in guitars, the strat looks like it will be a killer guitar as well.
On the LP I have a question for you, why did you choose to go with the standard plate for the neck joint versus using countersunk ferrules so that all you see is wood? I am considering doing a project like this.

Re: I'm back, and I have pics of my finished Warmoth LP
I decided to get a regular neck plate because there is a guy who does custom engraved neck plates on the Warmoth forum, and I plan on getting one at some point. I want to get one that looks like the movie poster from Jaws because that's the guitar's nickname.
