The Other Site-Replica Black Hole?

Just curious; why does anytime something about a Max, etc get posted on the LPF, it's always "moved" into a forum that seemingly one does not have access to? I'm assuming it is the "paid" forum over there? Why such a fear, hatred, and loathing of Max's, Derrig's, etc on the LPF?

Can't comment on the fear or hatred, but the rules are pretty strict over there about what you can post in what area. If it's not a Gibson, it gets moved to the Backstage...which ain't free.

I love this forum, but I've never had any issues with the folks at the LPF. If no one answers your questions there it's because no one knows the answer or it's been answered a million times and you didn't search first.

Replicas are a touchy issue. Maybe the LPF moves those threads into the Backstage Area to keep Gibson happy. Who knows.

darkburst, i asked if anyone would know why a 2006 giby vos r8 i saw would have a 3 piece neck neck on it. over 220 views and no reply. not even a "wow that's wierd, i have no idea."

i posted the same question here and got a reply within 1 hour.

I've lurked quite a bit over there. Tried to join even, before I found out about this site. I never got an official registration confirmation sent to me. After reason enough posts, I find the site to not really be that friendly. I don't think being critical of the other site is Jr. High, its simple fact and actually quite "adult" if done correctly.

I think mylespaul is the way it should be - pretty much laid back, and place where people who like music and guitars can chat. Its mostly about Gibson, but there is plenty that isn't gibson which is fine to. We are all here for a common reason, which would also bring with it other similar interests that may have nothing to do with Gibson or guitars. Whats wrong with that?

I've belonged to the LPF for a long time and have seen a lot of changes. I help moderator their Cafe Wah acoustic forum. Nice group, all in all. I am happy that this forum tolerates "other" LP types of discussion. That's not the case at the LPF, nor within the rules. I accept that. But I am very happy to have MLP to discuss my MIJ fantasies.

Greg, I hope that your posts were not directed at me because my original question was just that, a question. I wasn't knocking anything. That said, it is not the friendliest group of folks I've ever encountered and I too could never get a return email to get signed up until I personally contacted one of the "big wigs" whom I know personally. It just struck me as funny that anything not Gibby is "bad". No different if on the Plexi Palace, you couldn't talk about Metroamps, or Weber kits that are replicas of Marshalls. I don't understand the fear, unless some of the so-called experts have been fooled by the replica builders a time or two.

I dont' see it as fear. It's just not what they're about. They have a clearly defined set of rules, and they enforce them 99.999% of the time. (Some subtle spamming by the list elders, but it doesn't bother me)
Can't defend the issues with getting signed up. But it's worth the effort. I've learned SO much about LPs there.
I do like the more relaxed feel here too. Glad to have both LPF and MLP.

Another forum, Axe House you cannot even browse the forums to know if they are worth joining? Registration has been disabled there for now, so I guess that's that.
Me, I'm not trashing any forums, just recognizing the differences.
This place is a fine home. I try and respect the rules and keep things positive. There are enough grief forums on the internet.

My guess about replicas and the LPF is that The Powers That Be over there have one eye on good relations with Gibson. As 'Les Paul' is still a Gibson trademark, it's probably A Good Idea. May well affect this forum in the future?

if you are using a free email service like yahoo, or hotmail you may get that response. i tried my hotmail, and yahoo address, and got the same thing...but my verizon mail got thru.

I THINK BECAUSE THEY ARE INVOLVED WITH GIBSON'S $ IN SOME WAY SHAPE OR FORM.

What cracks me up is when I post pictures of my Gary Moore Heritage guitars whever I can sneak them in on LPF, no one replies or makes a comment, yet the most banal boring Norlin era junk elicits 3 pages of commentary.
It's like Satan appearing a church meeting.
On this forum which I joined first, I get unbiased opinions usually.
The elitist factor cannot be excluded or country club mentality, but I can find out good information there.
They refer to MLPF as the 'other' site , it is pretty crusty, ect. but it is what it is.
