Re: Best LP Replica?
I'd have to say 'other' for the same reason the other person mentioned earlier. This includes Max, Guitar Clinic, Kris Derrig, Keebler, Monty - basically, all those guys that make handmade replicas. I don't think Japanese replicas can be considered in an overall 'best replica poll', unless it's just amongst themselves.
I own both a Guitar Clinic replica as well as an Edwards and even though the Edwards is a fine instrument (both playing and in construction detail), it is not in the same category as the handmade replicas. Last edited by djem; 12-04-2007 at 02:47 PM. |

Re: Best LP Replica?
I had 35 Greco's and about 25 Tokais and they were all great guitars. I was lucky to get all the very high end one's from a Navy friend stationed there in the 80's. Would I compare them to the Old Gibson No but were very nice guitars.

Re: Best LP Replica?
Replica or copy .... just words. All are very good "imitations", some better than others.
I dig the MIJ stuff big time. I have three MIJ guitars and two early '80's Gold Star banjos that are imitations of the best '30's Gibsons. Good is good whatever the brand. imho

Re: Best LP Replica?
"In the world of Les Pauls 'replica' means 'a vintage style copy that includes the Gibson logo'."
That'd be "fraud" in my book.

lol Yes, replica is the wrong term for this thread. Is a Gibson Historic a 'replica'? It's only fraud if it's being sold as a Gibson. If a Max is being sold as a Max, then it isn't fraud IMO. |

Perhaps, let's ask Henry.

Re: Best LP Replica?
Because they're actually made by Gibson. Les Pauls made by Max, Derrig and Keebler are good examples of what experts, dealers and other Les Paul fanatics refer to as replicas. Are they frauds? Only if you try to pass them off as originals!

Re: Best LP Replica?
Back to the topic...
![]() I like Burny, Greco and Tokais. All are very good. I couldn't really say one is better than another. They all have top end models and lower end models so it would be difficult to say one is better than another without addressing specific models, years and establishing judgement criteria. I like Edwadrs too but their specs tend to be further off from the real thing. They play very well and tend to be lighter than most other copies. I have a newer Tokai, 2 80s Burnys, an 84 Greco and and newer Edwards. I had a MIK Orville...that was a total turd. |
