New Edwards models
Just saw these recently and don't remember seeing them in Edwards catalog before.Maybe a couple new models?Maybe Wulfman or another of our resident MIJ experts can chime in and clarify.
Anyways, one is a new LP Custom type model and designated the Edwards LP CUSTOM DUNCAN E-LP-110CD/QM. The other is a pretty sweet looking 335 type designated the Edwards E-SA-125LTS SEMI-HOLLOW Lacquer Tasted series Sunburst 316407806. I've never owned or even played a 335 but this looks so sweet! ![]() ![]()

Re: New Edwards models
The E-SA-125LTS is definitely in the 2009 catalog. I'm not sure about the E-LP-110QM. I know Quilted Maple has featured on other Edwards models like the E-LP-92QM (which is also in the 2009 catalog). I've heard great things about the Edwards 335s.

Re: New Edwards models
If that 335 plays and sounds as good as it looks-and it probably does from what you say-then that would be a killer axe to own.It has caused me a severe GAS attack for sure!

Re: New Edwards models
For sure, the only two desirable features lacking on most Edwards guitars is fret edge binding and 100% Nitro. The Lacquer Taste series are lacquer over poly but they don't feel quite the same as pure nitro. I'm glad they are doing nitro on some of their higher end models. Everything else is pretty darn nice, I understand the GAS!

Re: New Edwards models
The SA-125LTS has been out for some time now, perhaps 5 years. There's a cherry version with blocks as well and there used to be a black dot model as well. I almost picked up a used one in Tokyo a while back but someone snagged it right before I went back to the store. That quilted Custom is new however.

Re: New Edwards models
Be aware, the Edwards 335s are NOT constructed like the Gibsons. The tops and backs are carved maple, rather than laminated, and the center blocks are mahogany, rather than maple. Just FYI.

Re: New Edwards models
I had one of those Edwards 335s, a 2010 model. It was fantastic; I thought I was going to have to change out the electronics but it sounded so amazing I kept it stock. I ended up selling it, though, because the frets were just too low for me to get along with. They weren't worn down or anything, low frets just seems to be the way Edwards does it. I thought about having it refretted but I just didn't really bond with it, not a big fan of the satin finish on the body. That 'Lacquer Taste Series' moniker means they spray a thin coat of nitro over a mostly polyurethane finish, but they leave it satin for... I don't know, more authenticity? I probably could have polished it myself with a bit of elbow grease, but the call of another New Guitar Day was just too strong in the end.
Still an amazing guitar, though, I'd recommend it to anyone who was OK with those two caveats. It was probably about a quarter of the price of a real Gibson 335 here in Australia and I can't imagine it sounding much better. Last edited by professorhulk; 04-17-2012 at 11:50 AM. |

Re: New Edwards models
It's a really nice medium thickness. Probably a little bit thinner than a '59 profile, but nicely round to me at least. The Edwardses have the full 1 11/16ths nut too, whereas I believe the Tokai 335s have 9/16ths ones like a late '60s Gibson.
I read about Edwards 335s having differnt construction methods to a Gibson, but it would take better ears than mine to hear the difference. Mine sounded like like a 335 to me :P. The top and back have less pronounced contours than a Gibson, but I don't know whether that's to do with them being carved rather than pressed or whether it was just a stylistic choice. |

Re: New Edwards models
Someone just needs to just buy JamesT's Pure Material already so it can stop haunting me!

Re: New Edwards models
So, Olwanger, do you need us to send you more money so you can swing the purchase or are you doing okay?

Re: New Edwards models
It means what team1 said and linked to. I'm glad I was able to send you money to help you pay your bills and feed your family... or not so you could spend the money that I and others sent to you for that purpose only to find out that you've been buying new guitars for yourself just a couple of weeks later.
