Anyone recognize this old Les Paul?

Hey Gang!
My friend's father has this nice GT. I was just wondering what kinda guitar was this. I doubt that it's a real Gibson cause of the cutaway, the tailpiece, the bigass humbuckers etc. I guess the neck was changed to a custom or something.
However it almost sings like a piano. In the neck position I hear B.B. King playin.
Any info on this?

(PS. I don't have more pics about the guitar)

......

Not even close! I don't even think that pile is even worthy enough to be called a fake?

...but, yeah, it's NOT real!

Even if it doesn't, would still make a good canoe paddle.

Re: Anyone recognize this old Les Paul?

I would guess it is a 60s - early 70s far eastern copy that someone has done some homemade inlay work on. A very inaccurate copy. I would bet that under those HB pickup covers lie some loosely assembled single coils. Not worth much money at all, but I always think that if something sounds good and plays well, use it. Some of those old guitars have some good tones, not the ones of the guitars they were copying, but still interesting.

Thank for the input guys.
For those who say it's a cheap ass copy I say don't you judge it by the cover! It sounds very beautiful.

Re: Anyone recognize this old Les Paul?

Thread moved...it's clearly not a real Gibson, but it does look quite old.

It'd be interesting to see what kind of pickups those are.

Re: Anyone recognize this old Les Paul?

I bet the guitar sounds very single coil style. As i found under the pu covers single coils, they made it very often this way.
I got almost the same lp, Brand "Diamond EL-195" , budget series from Aria early 70s.

Not a snowball's chance in hell that it's a real Gibson, that's for sure.

But it sure does look old.

Do not say this, maybe it is one from the very famous puerto rican brand Alfonso Gibson

Re: Anyone recognize this old Les Paul?

For a good tone, that is also a different tone, keep it. If does something a Gibson or Fender can't, and sounds great doing it, then you've got a gem.

There's a reason Neil Youngs love of Gretsch White Falcons rubbed off on Stills you know.
