"Bunny"? What A Stupid Name For A Guitar!
When I was first stationed in Japan (Yokota AB) in 1983 I used to hang out at the local Live Music place called The Chicken Shack. I'm sure some of you have been there too. Plenty of Japanese bands cycled their way through there and a lot of them played a cool looking Gibson Les Paul copy which looked to me like it was called a "Bunny".
I always thought that was weird but after coming to understand the Japanese culture and marrying two Japanese women (not at the same time) it kind of made sense that they'd name a guitar like that. I mean, they like small, cute things so it fits in with their thinking. Or so I thought. I even told people over the years during the discussion of all things Japan, "You know in Japan they have this guitar named "Bunny"! Isn't that weird? Hahahaha!" I have even been in Japanese guitar shops over the years and had the opportunity to buy a "Bunny" but have refused. I didn't want a guitar with "Bunny" on the headstock, how ghey is that? Once I even turned down a "Bunny" to buy a Mexican Strat! Then, I registered here at MLP and discovered: "Oh, it's a BURNY! Oh Lawd aint I a f*ckin' retard?" For nearly 30 years, I thought it said Bunny!

Re: "Bunny"? What A Stupid Name For A Guitar!
About 2 years ago, I started getting back into guitar & gear after a long hiatus. Being in Japan, I was amazed by the unusual variety of guitar brands and shocked by the prices. This led me to the recycle shops as Japanese tend to dislike pre-owned stuff. Anyway, I saw a worn LP that was priced almost as high as the USA strat next to it. Said "Navigator" on the headstock. Thought who the hell would spend that kind of coin on an old goofy Gibson wannabe - only some idiot would fall for that! Ahhh, If I only knew then...
Been chasing that bastard ever since.

Re: "Bunny"? What A Stupid Name For A Guitar!
I am glad I was not the only one that thought the name was "Bunny".
I remember picking up these cool "Bunny" Japanese sunburst LP copies that Steve's Guitars in Toronto had going for 200 dollars each in 1981 and being amazed at how well made and light they were. Steve's around that same time had an original 57 GT Les Paul with Bigsby on the wall going for an astronomical 3500 dollars Canadian. Stupid me did not buy the 57 GT or the light "Bunny" LP copy. |

Hahahahaha. But Iīve seen somewhere that they wanted to call them Bunny, but someone wrote it wrong and became Burny. Canīt say if itīs true but is another history.
