What's the best "Les Paul" for under $1000 WITH a thick-er neck?
What's the best "Les Paul" for under $1000 WITH a thick-er neck?
I've played a few ESP LTD's and they all have flatter necks which really bugs me. I need something with a thicker C, U or V... are there any of those out there for under $1000? One that's chambered and with P90's would be ideal but I can swap out HB's easy...Cheers. Last edited by tehanallang; 02-28-2012 at 03:01 PM. |

If you watch YJ Japan for a few years you might get lucky and pick up a Navigator or Greco EGF but other than that its luck of the draw.

Navis and EGFs will fit the bill but IMO Bacchus Classic are the best current thick-neck MIJ guitars. Some deals can be had new for as low as 59k for something like this plain-top. You get no nibs and no full-nitro finish like a Navi but everything else is there.

I love the neck on my first gen les paul BFG. The hollowbody sound and pickup combination are something to get used to, but the neck is perfect. Paid $799 new. Its a rounded 50s neck, not flattened, and not as chunky as most of the 50s necks I've played, but still a hand full. I prefer the 50s style neck.

And you can paddle your canoe with that headstock when not playing it.
![]() On a serious note, the newer Navigators have the fattest necks I have ever played. YMMV however |

I love how no matter what forum your in on this site, theres a Gibson fan purposely instigating arguements motivated by there own insecurities about there own guitars... We get it bro..its ok.

Re: What's the best "Les Paul" for under $1000 WITH a thick-er neck?
well, it's an Epi and not an 'other' LP guitar.....
But the Epi Joe Bonamassa gold top is really nice. Thick neck, solid body, long neck tenon, Mallory 150 capacitors, full size pots, Switchcraft switch (not 100% on the switch, but it looks like a Switchcraft to me and has the same braided wire), Burstbucker pickups plus it comes with a hard shell case. $699. stock and with a GC or MF coupon you can usually get it down to under $600. I got mine for less then $600. and I couldn't be happier with it. The only thing that bugs me even a little bit is that the back is black instead of red/brown. But for this much guitar for that little money, it's a steal. I hear ya on the LTD's. I love mine but the neck is definitely wide and thinner. |

You should at least consider the Agiles from Rondo Music. They are very nice bang for the buck guitars.
It varying shapes are ok, you should look at vintage Yamaha, Ibanez, Aria Pro II, Burny and other made in japan guitars from the 70's. |

Speaking of Epiphones, grab an Elitist. It sounds exactly like what you're looking for.
..and though there's an Epi subforum, I still find the MIJ models to be part of the "other" classification. |

+1 on checking out Rondomusic.com and looking at the Agiles. Obviously I play them, but love them. For under $600 you can generally get a very nicely done up axe.
