Help with dating my Burny

No not as in "Date her and take her out for a movie"

If so, be back by 9pm! haha

I have taken apart my burny today, a nice cream colored LP, lighting inlay on the headstock, TRC is Xmas tree? its like the bell with the fins comming out at the bottom, then just above half way up it has them again, 2 screws holding it there.- like what 'orangeguitar.com" say-" The bell-shape cover with thin white band and ridges sticking out from the side are found on mid-1980s to early 1990’s models"

It has the VH1 marking on the pick up rings (or squares) then i took them out, no numbers, they have Gold metal covers on them too, and the Vol/tone nobs are black bell style (not speed nobs)

Any clues, i have been looking on this site for ages, its great! just had to log on and get my worries out of the way.

Here is the ebay listing address
Burny LP in perfect condition, made in Japan 1980's - eBay, Electric, Guitars, Musical Instruments. (end time 09-May-08 23:36:40 AEST)

Thankyou!!

Re: Help with dating my Burny

Ow quick edit, i have posted this just because i have read this and that all over the web and sometimes i think its from the 80's, then korea, then the 90's and some sites say that "all burnys have Serial #s", its nice and heavy, the neck feels goood, and sounds good, i have just used it for teaching (what i do for a living) and one jam,

Did i get ripped off? i know the price was high on ebay, but its in mint cindition, there is one little chip near the bottom strap lock, you can see the paint job is like glass, very hard etc

Re: Help with dating my Burny

from the description(s) i'd say definately japanese and top quality, probably late eighties/early nineties, i used to own a Burny RLG 90 les paul standard flametop(number indicates approx price in yen= 90,000 yen jpn) and no relation to year built etc, it's a common practice with some japanese manufacturers Burny, Tokai etc, anyhow my standard had the seriel number marked in the bridge pickup cavity, you may want to take a look in there, it may help you to confirm year/origin etc, try japanaxe forum for more info,

Re: Help with dating my Burny

hey man thank you for the info,
I took out the pick ups, and there is nothing written, the wood has paint on it, and its real bumpy, you couldnt write or put a sticker there, it would come off quite quickly,
Under the tail/bridge pieces, it has "SG TAILPICE Made in Japan" & "SG BRIDGE.F 8 10 7
Made in japan"
Does that help?

Re: Help with dating my Burny

hi, sorry i'm not that familiar with the Customs/RLC's, my RLG 90 had the same markings on the bridge/tailpiece though, try UITA (a member here) looking by his recent post's he has one or two Customs/RLC's and as above japanaxe forum,

I'll have to add something important ... dating a guitar without any pics is ... BS !!!!

As I've mentioned already somewhere concerning dating Burnys ... it's very difficult ...

doug ... Tokai guitars are rather easy to ID from the s/n ...

classic.....pics shown above in ebay link that's why I stated in my initial reply to Benwilson "from the description(s)"...etc, ...., I think you misunderstood me regarding the above, I was refering to Burny and Tokai using model numbers equating to their approximate price in japan/yen not Tokai serial numbers.....

Re: Help with dating my Burny

Looks like you got an honest deal. They didn't put on a different TRC that would've made it look like an older model. I think you got second generation VH-1's?

Great guitar there, mate!

Howzabout some of your own pics, my friend? We'd all love to have a better look at her!
