An open letter to those seeking Burst Replicas

While it is known by some that I used to work with MAX, he is retired and I will NOT DO burst replicas for people.

I have gotten many emails requesting them. I am not Gibson, I do not want to get in trouble with Gibson either.

There are many fine replicas floating around to buy.

Asking me to build you one is not going to happen.

Guitars I build bear the name RIST on the headstock.

I AM willing to do restorations, makeovers, re tops, etc.

I can and will do what is desired to make your EXISTING Gibson more like a burst. But I will not build you one.

Cheers,
Roman

Re: An open letter to those seeking Burst Replicas

It needs to be said.

I have refused some LUCRATIVE offers, but looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life isn't appealing. I made two, one for me and one for my other guitarist, and they are easliy debunked in person. Since neither are for sale, they are replicas. If they were sold, they'd be forgeries.

Not good for long term business!!!! LOL

Roman can't build a square Kleenez box, so save your money!

Re: An open letter to those seeking Burst Replicas

Just curious, but do you build , for lack of a better term, Burst "replicas" with the Rist name on them? Or is that too close to a Gibson forgery to you?

I hope that doesn't come off as a smart-ass question, it's not intended as such.

Understandable why people would want it doing, but I'd be proud of the name Rist on my headstock.

A builder likes to be recognised.

I have done a bit of guitarwork for Steve Vai, but refused a build because for endoresment reasons I would have to put Ibanez on the headstock.

I have no problem with building LP inspired guitars.

The shape and overal design is time tested and proven............and people love 'em.

But it would be a custom LP not a fake.

Yeah, I hear you, that's what I was getting at. I would rather have a custom LP than a fake any day. At the end of the day, the name on the headstock isn't nearly as important as the tone and playability of the instrument.

Hmm, a '54 Custom inspired RIST.... That's an intriguing idea

If there is no God, who pulls the next Kleenex out of the box?

Food for thought.

I'd like to make my R8 more like a burst, It probably needs a new neck, but I don't know if you will be able to get the holly veneer off and keep the logo, so that will need to be replaced too. I'll probably go with a new mahogany back, and a retop wouldn't hurt either (a less "BBQ" top). I would like to keep the truss rod cover and truss nut and washer that are on it now though.

How much?
