NGD - I now own the worst Greco on MLP
I was looking for some U-1000 pickups so bid on this junk guitar but came in second. I guess the top bidder didn't bother contacting the store so I got it for 4500 yen plus shipping. A bolt on to boot!
![]() ![]() Looks like a good candidate to practice some refinishing on. Looks like she took a bullet by the toggle switch. |

She does look in rough shape but don't let the bolt-on fool you Wulf. I play my bolt-on Cortley everyday. It actually sounds better acoustically than my Tokai.

I definitely plan to get some cheap used klusons or GReco tuners and see what she is all about. The U-1000 pickups are supposed to sound pretty good and these are 36 years old.

Someone had upgraded the tuners on my Cortley with Grovers. I plan on getting some new pups from GFS for it and also a whole new electronics kit.

Re: NGD - I now own the worst Greco on MLP
Don't get GFS. For the same price (roughly) do yourself a favor and buy some Toneriders. I have a Vintage 59 GFS Neck pickup (widely considered on of their best) in the middle position of one of my 3 pup customs surrounded by a neck and bridge Tonerider Alnico IV set, needless to say, the GFS is harsh and brittle and the Toneriders sound like something twice the price. I you want to spend a little more, get a pair of DiMarzio 36th Anniversaries and thank me later.

Re: NGD - I now own the worst Greco on MLP
For $70 bucks you got a couple of interesting pickups, rings, a couple of knobs, some pointers, and some practice lumber!
I see the binding is coming off the neck. I've seen Greco necks go for decent coin on Ebay. You might be able to get your money back on that alone if you refinished it. |

Dibs on the neck if you go apeshit on it and smash it to smithereens. I could use a new bolt on. for my LP.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm wondering how the U-1000 pickups sounded Wulf? Did you get a chance to try them yet?

In any case I still have the guitar and may use it to practice repairs and fretwork. It needs some repair on the binding. |

Re: NGD - I now own the worst Greco on MLP
I put what I believe are U-1000 from my Greco EG600PR into my GTX36 LP this morning. Both are about 7.6k.
They sound pretty good...better than they did in the Greco. They have a nice snarl when dimed and clean up nice when rolled back. Only thing is they're kinda noisy...buzzy. Maybe these old pups aren't shielded so well? |
