Re: MIJ Classifieds thread

I've never heard of a one piece bodied Les Paul. Custom or ?, with a carved top. Curious.

Please educate me.

I have read they exist, but I have never owned one and don't have first hand knowledge or proof.
Example thread here.

Re: MIJ Classifieds thread

I'm guessing they must've drilled the jack hole (please, that's not a joke setup udo), straight up to the switch cavity. I guess they could do that.

I seriously doubt ESP/Edwards would go to that much trouble - or veer that far from their set production manufacturing process to do that. I can see the Greco guys trying it back in the day, though.

I still suggest you scrape a little paint in the pu cavity. Or not. I know we all don't have unlimited time to dink around with our guitars. Just curious if you're selling a rare one.

Wow! Too cool. Thanks for that link, wulf!

They did drill the wiring route to accomplish the one piece body. "Round hole" is the tell tale. Very interesting!

More goofy trivia to pack upstairs.

I just checked my 82 Greco EG58-100 and as far as I can tell it is two pieces with no separate top which is as the catalog says. I'll see if I have some time to take pics of the holes in the pickup cavities to see if it is drilled from the output jack hole.

Re: MIJ Classifieds thread

Hmmm interesting 1 piece carved mahagony, but I thought Les Paul was craved for tonal quality that came from a maple top? (Not that I've magic/pro ears that can identify wood tone, just based on what I've read)

Wouldnt a 1 piece mahagony Les Paul a bigger brother of the LP Studio/Special ?

Some customs came with all mahogany but usually in the form of a cap.

My RLC-60 has one.

A bit surprising but I guess it may well have a mahogany top from the pic of the control cavity:

Debate Continues on Greco 700

I bought this guitar a couple of weeks ago and there was some debate as to wether it has a solid cap or veneer. Well while changing pots and caps I looked from the wiring cavity, switch cavity and pickup holes. I found after a little paint and sealer removal a cap that is 1/2 inch as close as i cam measure. Most solid caps are 3/4 to 1 inch. They may have made it thinner to save on cost, I still don't know. I do know this thing sings and I'm glad to have her. Also the Electric City Arbuckle pups are fantastic.

New Heritage H-150 For Sale Tons of Upgrades

I bought this about 3 weeks ago and found I have too many Standards so I'm taking a hit and letting it go. The upgrades are:
Tonepro's Tulip Tuners
WCR Crossroads Aged set pups
Faber 59 aged locking Bridge and light weight tail piece, both aged
CTS 500k pots and Russian .022 600v oil in paper caps.
Long neck tenon
This one was special ordered for Jimmy Wallace Guitars in TX. Still has plastic on back plates. I added the caps, pot, and pickups. She is Vintage sunburst(Think Pearly Gates) and comes with Heritage Hard case. I paid 1950 for the guitar and 400 for upgrades. I'll let her go for $1725 paypal gift and shipping included to USA. Will ship anywhere you pay $1700 and shipping. Thanks Frank

To be honest, this guitar falls under the "I don't give a crap" category of solid vs veneer
Looks like my Greco, hope to God it sounds and plays like it too. If that's the case, you've scored.

Re: MIJ Classifieds thread

Anyone notice that Ishibashi Music is offering free shipping to North America using EMS?

I sent a message to them about it over a edwards they had for sale and they replied:

Thank you for your inquiry, This is Ishibashi Music.
We offer the amounts of US $719.99 for the guitar.
If you make order the model, we do not offer extra shipping fee to you.

If you have any questions, please let us know.
Thank you very much.
Best regards,

I'm tempted, but also wary that it's a mistake and they'll still hit me with a shipping fee.

Re: MIJ Classifieds thread

Drake, you may or may not
It all depends who is working at customs that day.
I have had plenty of guitars come through owning nothing and a few owing $$
Place the order and if they charge you shipping just cancel the order.

In short, yes, the shipment cost should technically be part of the declared value for which you should pay import fees. But as Chris said, sometimes you get lucky.

They offer free shipping within Japan for sure, but I'd be surprised if they would ship overseas for free on a 50,000 yen guitar. That would take most of the profit away.

The shipping cost should not be part of the declared value really IMO and I have yet to see Rinkya, JAC, etc do that...they just state the auction value paid not including their commission and local Japan shipping etc.
Same goes for anything purchased in the US to Canada...shipping is paid for in the senders country and tax is paid on that, no reason we should have to pay tax again on that service once it arrives at the destination

They've done this on all my purchases through them, without me asking for it. Can't say I mind either
At times they write the value down with 50%, usually it has been about 10k less than what I paid.

Would be really interesting to see what they'd write on a 100k+ guitar. Guess I'll find out when that perfect Navigator pops up on YJ

(and considering Sweden's extreme tax & fees, it really helps an addict out. Almost 30% added to value + shipping(yep we pay taxes for the shipping))
