Yeah she is a beauty...boy I just cannot fathom who will bid on that?
Just like I had no expectations on who would end up bidding on the 1200 this morning or the 580 Nav from yesterday...haha |

Re: Unofficial official anything GRECO theory photo id related thread
Over 300K I think?
While the top is nice, paying $4000+ for a 2+ piece back etc really is kinda silly IMO. Buy a custom built or you know what I would choose instead for less $$ lol

Better, but the nicer 150k examples I've seen, all look like they were played for hours by your signature kitty.

Re: Unofficial official anything GRECO theory photo id related thread
navigator=new
greco in question=old old wood vs new wood? tenons? 1 or 2 piece back? pickups? how much work is actually done by hand? etc etc.. i could go on for days, same old, same old.. but you gotta ask why these guitars with their inferior specs command such high prices, and don't try to tell me its the hype, there will be a bidding frenzy on this, because its very rare and very special, personally i would rather have this than 2 150k navigators, in my experience every 1800 so far has been a killer guitar, all the navs are very good, but the vintage greco 1200 and 1800 are my holy grail, tonewise i have yet to consistantly find a better guitar by any maker and any model.. . |

Re: Unofficial official anything GRECO theory photo id related thread
Yes and you are the highest bidder currently (shocking eh?) AND the whole point of your above post is "rare and collectible".
They are rare because people at the time didn't have the whopping 180K to buy such a guitar thus few were made and were essentially a custom shop type of ordered guitar but even at that price they still cut corners on the back construction etc IMO. You think the stock of Honduran mahogany and Brazilian rosewood ESP uses are new? Both those woods now have and have had restrictions on them so I am pretty damn sure the wood ESP uses on the Navs is old stock thus why they sound so damn good. Also if they are the Holy Grail why are you and so many others ALWAYS selling them? I would gladly put my Lemon Nav up against any of your "collection" of 1200 or 1800's Mark and I bet you it would keep up or own them, nuff said haha

Re: Unofficial official anything GRECO theory photo id related thread
Although it clearly is his personal preference, Mark is actually the only one (here?) who can say anything comparative about these 2 brands for having so many models passing through his hands over the past years.
I do value what he says about high end Greco's, also because I can back up the his findings on 1800s. I also do value what you have to say about your Navigators. Reason for selling a guitar is personal, but I can imagine that the current value of 1800s and the current declining economical position of many people has something to with it.

Re: Unofficial official anything GRECO theory photo id related thread
I hear ya man.
I have played 1200's and owned a 120. They are REALLY nice guitars and have that mojo vibe to them. I suspect the 1800 is a solid topped 1200, really as it would share the same nice Super Real neck, similar pieced back, pickups, tail and bridge, etc minus having a solid top and different burst. I suppose you can and do find really well balanced, resonant, fit like a glove guitars in all brands across the world and Mark has found em in the older Grecos. Hell my 80 Custom is never going, it is kick ass but so are the Navs and they definitely feel and play like an oldie. |

Regardless, because all guitars are different, and some are better than others even within given model lines, it's a ludicrous argument to begin with. Guitar manufacturers don't put guitars in the chipper because the odd one is 5% less resonant, and they don't sell them as seconds either. Must be really strange playing single cut right handed guitars left handed, plus not being able to flip the strings without drilling new bridge holes for intonation. Do you own any double cut or left handed guitars ? Last edited by reborn old; 01-07-2012 at 03:08 PM. |

I am a lefty but play right handed as many of us do. I currently own only right handed guitars, 2 of them are EGF1800s. DCs don't appeal to me visually.

Re: Unofficial official anything GRECO theory photo id related thread
Just having a little look around for a DC Jr. There's this Greco on YJ
![]() It got me thinking about these old Greco Jrs, I've not seen many around and was wondering if anyone else had come upon one. I know member freebird2 had one which he said had a chunky neck and was a very nice guitar. An interesting thing to note on this one is the closed O headstock logo. The seller seems to think it's an '84 model due to an 4 xxxx serial and MC truss rod cover. What gives? Common practice on MC Jrs?
