Re: Best 59 replica?
That's actually pretty funny!
You asked who makes them, not who sells them. Max will not sell you one. I'm sure Gibson watches Max's every move. (I think) Roman will, if you don't mind that it has "Rist" instead of "Gibson" on the headstock. Peter “Max” Baranet with Slash. Slash is holding the guitar that Max made for him, although Max can't remember making it. ![]() (Notice that the picture doesn't show the headstock) Slash made an album using the guitar called "Appetite for Destruction”

Re: Best 59 replica?
About a year ago - I had no idea what his prices are like - I emailed MAX about it. He was still selling them at the time, however he wasn't making them. Had a small stash of guitars he had built.

I thought Roman said on his web site to not even ask him to build a 59 burst. Anybody know much about these guys? Eastern Maple Carved Tops They are on MLP. I was curious to know how accurate their bodies are to a real 59. They don't actually say they are patterned after a 59 but they do say "late 50s" so I just assumed 59. |

Roman may not want the legal hassles either.

Replicas are becoming a dime a dozen really, but it's the details that really allow the great ones to stand out. There are particular methods used by Gibson in the 50's that leave tell tale markings in the cavities that are impossible to replicate unless the original methods are used. They are only visible with the guitar disassembled and the electronics removed, so make sure to get detailed photos if you're in the market. The best way to make sure you get a very accurate one is to know exactly what to look for. Here are a couple made from our kits; Goldtop Burst |

the MYTH that Gibson will take you for everything you own real helps create this weird wibe around them also..not saying that if someone advertise like crazy and starts pumping them at a rate of 1 a week that GIbson wont take action, but Companies have better things to do the start shutting down small home builders realy.

Re: Best 59 replica?
Replicas get priced after a percentage of the real thing. Of course pure rational value can't be found: there probably isn't. If you take into consideration though the research it took and other factors, there is some rationale tied to higher prices.
If you find ANYone doing a great job with a 1959 LP replica at a cheap price though, please let me know. I would be really curious. |
