How many pieces is this back?
Myself and the seller already think it's more than 1 piece, but I am not entirely convinced and wanted your opinions..

Sorry, I had linked them directly from my email inbox and you obviously had to be signed in as me to see them.

Re: How many pieces is this back?
I guess we all notice the seam in line with the top of the control cavity plate...
Thing is, and this may just be me being hopeful, I think I can see some of the rings in the wood continuing across the line and also one in line with the maple top. Also, I don't think the line is dead straight. Am I going crazy??

Re: How many pieces is this back?
Look at the bottom of the guitar. The grain lines are diagonial while this joing line is vertical. Builders match the grains of the two pieces at the back because it's the biggest area so the bottom of the guitar is where it's more clear.

Re: How many pieces is this back?
I don't think there would be edge finish cracking right on a suspected seam with a one piece back. This is caused by the smaller piece drying faster than the larger piece. The finish crack won't always be dead straight.
The smaller piece is probably a flitch cut from the same board as the larger piece. Hope I'm wrong, but that's what I see. |

Re: How many pieces is this back?
That sounds very logical and reasonable - thank you for your input

Re: How many pieces is this back?
It looks like at least two, maybe three. It doesnt really make much of a difference. My orville is great and its a 2 piece.
