Re: Edwards LP or Gibson studio?
Being an Aussie, purchasing a guitar, any guitar from Japan is a good thing.
They are close and the shipping is top notch. I have purchased 4 guitars from Japan. 2 Edwards and 2 Gibsons. Just have them drop the documented shipping price to under $1k Aust and you won't get hit with import tax. Most sellers will do this. If they won't, buy somewhere else ![]() Also, all the guitars I had shipped from Japan turned up in 3 days. Good luck mate.

Re: Edwards LP or Gibson studio?
I never liked studios. The fact that they now have 3 and 4 piece bodies like a Korean Epiphone hasn't exactly enhanced my attraction to them - although I'm sure they're mostly very well made and sound good.
I'd still say Edwards or Tokai. |

Re: Edwards LP or Gibson studio?
If you were in the US, I'd say "The Edwards is a better guitar because it tries to do its best to be as good as a Gibson Standard. The Studio will always be inferior because Gibson has to ensure that it is NOT as good as a Gibson Standard. There's nothing the Studio can do to make up for the lack of a maple top and the general inferior build quality." That's because the Edwards and the Gibson cost about the same there.
But since you're in Australia, I'll say "dude, American Gibsons are already overpriced in America... here, they're just ridiculous. The Edwards is new and it's superior; the Gibson is 15ish years old and it's an inferior instrument." On the other hand, the Gibson will hold its value because it's used. New guitars always lose a good chunk of their value as soon as you take them out of the shop. So, I vote that you get a used Edwards (or even better, an old high-end Greco - same price as the new Edwards or the used Gibson, but the best guitar you can get in your price range). And since you're in Australia, I should mention that none of the aforementioned guitars are half as good as this one: Electric Maton Mastersound - eBay, Guitars Electric, Instruments, Musical Instruments. (end time 26-Sep-10 21:23:11 AEST) I have one... if you're in Sydney, you're welcome to come and check it out. imo, it's the single best LP-style guitar I've ever played. |

Re: Edwards LP or Gibson studio?
Early 90s Studio Lite, lightweight with ebony board, can be had fairly cheap off ebay. I have an Edwards LP Custom and a '91 Studio Lite. Like the Studio better but needs a re-fret so Edwards is the main player-great guitar for the price (if you don't mind poly finish on your LP).
