One of a kind, strange but true

An associate who plays blues sent me theses pics and this note

And now for something different. I’m about to list this for sale but thought you’d get a kick out of it. The luthier started with a big thick slab and carved it down; it’s not “built up”. No, I did not buy it for myself. I bought it to sell.

I present to you, the Jesus guitar.

Re: One of a kind, strange but true

If only he managed to get some black velvet, an Elvis, and a Toreador in there, he'd really be on to something.

That is truly horrifying.

I don't mean to offend, but after 8 years of the Dark Ages of Bush, I find
this type of religious exhibitionism to be particularly obnoxious.

WWJD? He'd burn this atrocity.

The Christocaster?!!

To quote Hicks, "Do you think when Jesus comes back, he ever wants to see a cross again?".

No- but I bet he wouldn't mind seeing himself on a guitar!

Atomic, please don't "quote" my post and then replace my words with your own.

It all boils down to the same subject. Distasteful religious exhibitionism and Bush Republicans are practically synonymous. That nitwit and his cronies empowered and legitimized the "Christian" Right Wing to the point where they were firing liberal judges and replacing them with "Christians."

They also managed to ban embryonic cell research on religious grounds.
Apparently it's "Christian" to care about the unborn, while outlawing significant research into something that could help the rest of mankind that already have been born.

Banning stem-cell research, teaching creationism, and blurring the lines between church and state bear all the hallmarks of the "Dark Ages." And this kind of over-the-top graven image belongs firmly in the dark ages.

Face it, religions (all of them) have created more evil in this world than they've prevented. One of the greatest evils is when those in power (like Bush) hide behind religion and family values to propagate their political agendas.

That's why I find this kind of religious overexuberance distasteful.

Blah, blah, blah, Jesus is my personal saviour, wah, wah... Good for you, moron. If there is a God he's given us reason and intellect enough to save ourselves without having to resort to the primitivism of dogma and superstition. Wake up and join the 21st century.

No doubt the person who built this thing thinks it's some sort of praise or worship.

In addition to finding it tacky, I think it's emblematic of idolatry and ignorance. In case you were asleep from 2000-2008 "ignorant" is also practically synonymous with Bush Republicans.

Of course, that's just my opinion. You're entitled to yours

But it's okay if all the judges are Liberals?
Just asking. I think the judges should reflect a divergent spectrum that reflects the society they're serving. So I'm not supporting wither side there (Plus I'm Canadian and don't get too involved in US politics-but here I'm addressing a principle that could affect any country)

This type of statement shows little concern for reality, and only concern with your own viewpoint. ABUSE of religion has been used as an excuse for evil, but religions have created much of the good in the world-Hospitals for starters. Plus many social agencies and charities-especially those who don't rely on government hand outs were started for religious reasons.

Plus everybody is religious in some way--so we all have some form of religion, and we all have the capability to do much harm.

Abuse of something does not negate it or disqualify it.

Atheism is responsible for a lot of evil in the world as well.

Here I agree with you. I am a Christian, and I find this offensive, although I'm sure the person who did it thought it was honoring God.

No, it is not just yours. You nailed the truth. Bush placates the religious right with his phoney claims to have been born again. There numbers were enough to get him elected. They also took the party to the extreme where is no longer viable.

The stem cell research is of particular interest to me. It holds the promise of an actual cure for me. Try to imagine your brain dieing. Then realise that was a path of research that leads to an actual cure but that research is blocked by the holier than the almighty, the republicans. I have progressed to the point that by the time a cure gets developed for Parkinson's, I will be too far gone for it to help me. Those eight years were my chance. BTW my last visit showed significant damage in my frontal lobe. I also have developed facial tics.

From the MLP rules section:

3. We do not allow posts that have religious content. You cannot get into areas involving religion or faith, etc. . You may not make posts that challenge the utility or validity of the thread or issues being discussed. You may not start threads that mock these threads.

4. We do not allow posts that discuss politics of any type anywhere on MLP. If you’re not sure whether your post might be interpreted by us as “political”, don’t post it!

I don't know how much those rules are observed, but point taken. Nobody ever wins one of those arguments, so why bother?

My second post was actually way more off topic than the first.

What started my rant wasn't the religious/political stuff, but the fact that I was "quoted" with somebody else's words. Apparently Atomic had a problem with a brief reference I made in passing. That's cool, but don't paraphrase or interpret my statement and attribute it as a quote.

After that, it just spewed out.

Sorry about that. Hope I didn't get any on you.

I understand what got you going and why. I too have taken offence to people editing what I said and then quoting it as what I said, so I completely agree, that it is not needed and shouldn't be done. You are right...the political/religion topics or diatribes just don't work on a message board as they usually result in flame wars and other crap that just don't benefit anyone.

I just hoped to diffuse any further back and forth with a friendly reminder because, in the end, we are here to talk guitars and music... MLP is a valued refuge from the average message board for sure!
