Buckethead sig vs Steve Vai sig

I wanted to get a new guitar, and I was really looking at these 2 guitars. What do you guys think? And give me pros and cons of both please.

The 'vetsiltety' of the Vai is unmatched in the world of guitars.

Didn't you say you were 15 and just learning to play guitar? You may want to be a little more realistic. You do not need to spend $2k to get a decent guitar, especially if you're not paying the premium for an "artist" name on it.

I've been playing for 13 years or so, owned 3 Gibsons, and yet my favorite guitar only cost me $130. Concentrate on the music.

I think, honestly, that the paying attention thing usually covers all aspects of life. A person is either curious about stuff and interested in learning, or he just wants to spend his time f***ing off.

Actually, the guitar is a gift. (I'm gonna buy it off ebay for under $2k) I got an $11k scholarship to one of the best private schools in my state.

Re: Buckethead sig vs Steve Vai sig

I'd say you're a little above your head there.
I've been playinf for almost 2 years, and I would never spend the money for a Jem,
cause I simply don't deserve it. You'd be much better off getting yourself another Ibanez from the RG series to start off with. And if you're buying from ebay, see if you can find one of the MIJ RG 550's, I got one and its an amazing guitar.
They look hot as hell too :P

EDIT: And if you're really set on one of the two, get the JEM. There should be thousands of reviews online, check HC

The Buckethead Sigs aren't even due in stock until almost the end of next month, so good luck with finding one on ebay now. With the Jems you have to be very careful on ebay as well as the Chinese knockoffs are everywhere. Don't get ripped off.

My apologies for being incorrect. What was quoted on several American websites was that they were due 19 April 2010.

I really don't know about the release date, you might be correct.
Yesterday, two members received their Gibson USA AFD Slash sigs before the official release date.

I understand. From what I could gather, the official in-stock date is 19 April.

The BH sig is 10% bigger than a normal Les Paul, so if your a little dude i'd go for thr Gem. You can always throw a killswitch on there.

Just a heads up. It's not polite in adult world to talk specific money. Not coming down on you, maybe you've never been taught that.

Re: Buckethead sig vs Steve Vai sig

learn how to play first on a less expensive instrument. Start out on a Gibson LP studio or a Ibanez RG. They both play as well as their pricier counterparts and every time you knock it into a door jam or a wall you won't be screwing up a beautiful signature guitar.
jmo.

Re: Buckethead sig vs Steve Vai sig

It's true that you can get the guitar first and work your skills up to the guitar, like a 1 year player (me) is doing with his BFG.
But now… 1k and 2k are a big difference, and considering ebay…

don't do it.

First, figure out all the money from the scholarship you will use in that school for your whole stay there. Then, go to a store, and play every guitar there, and see if you find one that works for you. If there's none one day, try some other day, or other store.

Don't waste your money on something you just want on a whim.

I played my BFG and loved it, that's why I got it, even though I'm still 15.
